I can see clearly now
August 9th, 2006 @ 10:07 pm | dc, miscellany | Post a CommentJust 12 hours ago, I was laying on a nice vinyl chair in a chilly room in an office building in Rockville while my doctor was lasering my eyeballs while simultaneously pondering out loud what he wanted his assistant to order him for lunch and how to best discipline his two teenage kids. Now I am sitting at home, totally rested from my five hours of Valium-induced napping and full from my delicious sushi dinner (thanks, girls!) and when I peer over at the clock on the other side of the room the digital numbers are crystal clear. I feel like I have my contact lenses in, but I don’t.
It’s really pretty damn amazing when you think about it. I haven’t been able to see clearly without contacts or glasses for more than half my life, and in a matter of five minutes that all changed. I think I might become a walking billboard for LASIK. If anyone in the DC area is considering it for themselves, let me know because I highly recommend my doctor.
For the next few weeks, I get to put a zillion different kinds of eyedrops into my eyes and sleep with goggles on. The goggles — they just scream sexiness. I know Andrew sure thinks so.

wow! that is so exciting and gave me goose bumps reading it!
Congratulations!
and the Invitations are wunderbar!

I can’t imagine looking at the clock! I have had my alarm clock since elementary school because the numbers are so huge and I can’t find another one like it. Are you afraid your eyes will change as you get older and you will still need glasses?

I’m so jealous. Seriously jealous. I can’t imagine getting up in the morning and not running into the cats and the walls.
Were those jaws of life they put in your eyes during the procedure just awful???

Yay! I’m very happy for you. Finally the days of my stomach turning when you put your contacts in your mouth to “clean” them are over! On another note, those goggles aren’t that bad – my dad had clear plastic ones that he had to TAPE on his face each night (but this was like 5 years ago.)

That picture is rad… you look like you are visiting us from the future. I cannot even imagine being able to read the clock at night. So awesome.

I just found your blog and scanned through 2006: greatest year ever when I read this! I’m curious who the doctor was. I am in the DC area and have been contemplating Lasik.. though I’m not sure I’m a good candidate. Please email me. Thanks.
