and the world balances itself out again

It seems that no sooner than 2.3 seconds after I posted about how the world is great and wonderful and puppies and kitties and babies and roses and rainbows and happiness (!), things went downhill.

My allergies suddenly turned into EbolaAvianEcoliFluVirus and I had to leave work sick. Andrew had to work late and I found myself alone and calling my mom from my couch on Friday night sobbing about how I just didn’t feel good and wahhhh waaahhhh I’m sick, pity me.

Saturday, we got up ass-early and drove straight to the jeweler in Delaware, where we completely struck out. My wedding band never arrived. Andrew’s was too big and has to be sent back to Germany. And the jeweler couldn’t fix my engagement ring that day, so he is keeping it for the week and shipping it back later. So I am bling-less.

We got back late last night and found a quasi-legal parking spot, only to find YET ANOTHER $50 ticket on our car this morning, bringing our parking ticket total for the month to something like $225. Or $2,250. Whichever makes you feel more sorry for me.

Luckily, not everything went poorly, since we actually had a really good time hanging out with the family and the cats did not kill each other or poke any eyes out (not for lack of trying, however), and the fitting went really well!

It seems somehow wrong to post photos of the dress here. I don’t want to ruin any good bridal luck I may have, but I also don’t want to leave you without actual photographic evidence, so I will instead direct you to photos here and here. Just don’t mind the pins and lopsided bulges that will soon be altered away. Jessica is a lifesaver for finding me such a great woman to fix my dress. If any of you ever need a custom-designed designer-replica dress made for your wedding, I have found your woman!

  1. What is WITH all this early fall sickness that everyone is having??? I just suffered through it, too (and posted about that very thing today). How bizarre.

  2. I’m sorry you were sick and dying and that you owe 1 million in parking fees. Poor you! That sucks. In better, happier news: You look so pretty! And your hair is getting so long! (Did you ever resolve the hair issue??) How many days to the wedding? So exciting!!!

  3. Wow. The dress is amazing! You look fabulous. Does the fact that it is October excite you?? Only a month and a week! Woohoo!

  4. I’m sorry your allergies were bothering you, and that you got a parking ticket. On a PMS day that’s easily enough to get me tearing up! You look so pretty in your dress. Can’t wait to be in sunny Mexico!

  5. LOVE the dress!!! It is so beautiful. I especially love the sash. Has Andrew seen it or will you wait for the big day?

  6. I am totally sympathetic. Poor you! I am such a baby when I get sick… and I’ve been near dead all day. Of course… that’s my own fault for drinking more vodka at a wedding on Sunday night than I’ve had in the past year combined. Waaah. My belly hurts.

Your dress is so gorgeous. I want one EXACTLY like it. If my man pops the question anytime soon, I will be asking for the name of that tailor, and also the information on where to buy that dress. You look beautiful.

  7. That dress is absolutely stunning, Janet. You look gorgeous.

Hoping your sickness gets better. Change of season is always a bad time. We’re coming into Summer here (bleh) so I’m predicting a flu anytime soon.

Boo about the wedding rings, and parking fines. Bastards!

  8. the dress is amazing. you look awesome!

  9. The dress is a knock out and it makes up for the woe and misery of the last few days. Now then. Shoes. Where are the pictures of the shoes?

  10. You are going to be one gorgeous bride! I am so excited for you and hope that you are feeling much better this week…

  11. Thanks for helping me move in that furniture last night. You are the bestest (almost) sister ever!

  12. Can I marry you? Because really, that dress (and you) look beautiful. I LOVE IT.

I hope you’re feeling better. I’m totally bummed out right now by all of these school shootings. I mean really, do people have to mess with kids? And Amish kids? Is nothing sacred anymore?!

(You did get a loaner for your engagement ring?)

  13. Hey Janet… I’ve been lurking on your blog for a few weeks, but I had to come out of the shadows to tell you that I love your dress. I’m getting married too (next summer) and I can relate to your “bridezilla” moments!

  14. Trust me, dear, you are NOT a Bridezilla. Great dress – Cheers to your tailor! Happy planning! PS… Do you want to be added to my Recent Links list?

  15. just catching up. sorry to hear you are feeling under the weather. Isn’t it funny how we still call our moms when we are sick.

your dress? It is sensational! You are a beautiful bride.

  16. The dress is absolutely gorgeous! Stunning.

    Hope your allergies are better.
