somebody save me from myself
January 23rd, 2007 @ 11:21 am | blonde moments, food | Post a CommentWhenever I go on a new diet, I also go into Super-Duper Self-Help mode. It’s never enough to just eat well and exercise more. No, I must become a better person on the inside too! I must learn new things and be a better listener! I must get to work 10 minutes early and finish all the things on my to do list! I must make a budget and stop spending money on unnecessary junk! (Nevermind that I am always starving while trying to do these things and then generally end up failing miserably.)
However, I’ve discovered the perfect product for my ailment, and it’s much cheaper than anything you can find at in the self-help aisle at Borders: free podcasts!
I know, I know, welcome to the new year, podcasting was probably cool back in 2006. But it’s 2007 and I am now on the bandwagon. Last night I downloaded a bunch of podcasts to help improve my life while I am slowly shrinking my thighs:
- Grammar Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing (you readers will thank me for this one!)
- Learn Spanish with Coffee Break Spanish (apparently margarita por favor? does not cut it in the real world)
- Money Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips for a Richer Life (perhaps Money Girl heard we are on one income these days?)
- iTunes New Music Tuesday (free music! helps my pop culture IQ)
- TEDTalks lecture series (brilliant people talking about worldly topics)
So any day now I should not only be a skinny-minnie but also a smart, rich, Spanish-music writer (or something like that). But honestly? I’ll give up all of that if you just give me the skinny part.
PS. Thanks to Isabel for first introducing me to podcasts with her favorite series, This American Life. I am now addicted. Also, I’m thinking Isabel might be just a teeny bit excited that Veronica Mars is back tonight.

Thanks for sharing! These look good.
Good luck on all your goals. I’m in the “get skinny” mode too – I’m loving that I am able to see a difference in my mid-section. I’m all kinds of sassy now. lol

I love This American Life and Grammar Girl, too! I’m going to have to check out Money Girl, though. I could use some extra saving tips!

Money Girl & Grammar Girl sound great! I’ll have to check them out.
You should check out My Pod Bod. It’s a 20 minute long interval cardio workout. The music speeds up & slows down depending on the interval, and the coach is actually motivating and doesn’t make you want to poke your eyes out!

You do not even know how excited I got just READING this post about podcasts. Dude, I LOVE THEM.
And you really like “This American Life”? Because I can send you my spreadsheet of my fave’s. Really, I can. And let’s talk more about the show and how I wanted to name my son Ira. And I’m not kidding.
Okay…have you heard the “V for Veronica Mars” podcast? You must check it out. It’s done by a middle school girl and it’s so awesome.
I also love the NPR “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me” podcast and some other TV show ones. Oh, and there’s that germanclass.com one that’s freakin hilrious. Check that out.
Okay, I’ll stop talking now.

WHen do you listen to your podcasts? On your commute or while you are being an overachiever at work? Just curious.
I wish you were here to help me with all the addressing I have to do for this FANTastic Fundraiser.

I’ve never downloaded a podcast in my life. I guess maybe I need to think about joining the bandwagon. Especially since I’m already such a fan of audiobooks, this isn’t far behind.
