not going to blogher? join my pity party!

Unless you’re new to the blogging scene or just like to keep your head in the sand (sometimes life is better in there, I swear), you probably have heard about the BlogHer conference going on in Chicago next week. About six months ago, Isabel asked me if I was going to go, and I promised her I’d consider it.
I have to admit I really want to go. Have you seen the list of speakers? Those are some smart, sassy, and accomplished ladies. Plus I wouldn’t really mind drinking wine into the wee hours in the morning with a bunch of hilarious, lovable blogfriends.
Unfortunately, this is a summer for out-of-state weddings, buying an expensive (yet tiny) house, recovering financially after six months of husband’s unemplyoment, and now, apparently, a dead car. So yeah, I won’t be making it to Chicago.
I know I’m not the only one, and who says we ladies left at home shouldn’t have any fun? I am hereby declaring love is blonde to be the Unofficial and Unauthorized Headquarters for the Not Going to BlogHer Pity Party, now new and improved with a contest! (Can’t you just feel the fun oozing out of the title?)
Here’s what you do: Send me your most pitiful reason for not being able to attend BlogHer. Or, if you don’t really have one, send me the most pitiful thing you are going to be doing next week while everyone else is at the conference. Pitiful is good. Funny is better. Accompanied by photos is the best. Email me your entries (subject line: Pity Party) by Wednesday, July 25th and I will post the best ones during the conference.
What’s in it for you? Aside from the fame and fortune that will befall you once you are featured here on this blog that technorati ranks somewhere in between “almost as exciting as chewed gum” and “more popular than post-prison Paris,” I am giving away a prize to the best entry: a like-new, pretty, buttery soft, chocolate brown, leather Coach purse. (Please disregard the fact that I got it for free, because I am willing to part with it for the sake of The Contest. Also? I need to buy a new car and cannot really afford any other prizes right now.)
And, it gets even better! My DC-BFF kindly made me a little blog button for everyone out there also NOT attending Blogher to put on your blog. Copy and upload the image and shout your lack of participation from the rooftops!

Or you can cut and paste the code below in your blog directly, but delete all the asterisks. I can’t guarantee this will work, since I am semi-deficient in html code and cannot attend BlogHer where I would have no doubt learned all kinds of things like how to link to fancypants buttons and how to make millions of dollars through blogging.

That’s all for now. Now go and start compiling your hilarious yet poignant sob stories! A free designer purse is on the line!

Waaaa! I’m not going, because as is applicable for the rest of the summer until….the last weekend in October, I have a wedding. I’m also slated to be out of town (read: spending too much money) this weekend, AND my parents are coming into town so they can ‘stay with us’ aka harass me for being so NOT susie homemaker.
Grrr. I NEED all the wine blogHer could provide. Stat!

Great idea. . .I seriously, even if I thought for a second I could rationalize the expense, would never go because I’m such a big wimp. I really am uncomfortable around big groups of people where I feel like I don’t know anyone. I’m not necessarily shy or socially awkward, or anything, I just feel so uncomfortable pushing myself on people that probably have more fun things to do.
Also, I don’t drink, so I can pretty much guarantee I’d be the loser sitting in the concern.
And I would kill for your buttery-soft like-new purse. Not you, of course, but maybe a bug. I’d definitely kill a cockroach for that purse (and that’s saying LOTS!)

Hmm, I’m going to have to start thinking of a pitiful reason for not attending and get to work on my picture filled essay stat!

Dude, a Coach purse? Crap. Maybe I’ll stay home now.
I kid.
(Don’t forget that we’re scheduled to have our own LET’S MEET BLOGGERS IN REAL LIFE party in DC in September. And that meeting will include Babboo and The King. So yeah, it might be better then BlogHer!)

I love love love this button and idea and free purse and everything!!! I’ve been lurking for awhile btw.
Anyway, this is a great idea.
I’m not going to BlogHer either. For various reasons. But, I’m excellent at holding pity parties.
I’m definitely stealing the button and I’m definitely thinking of a good thing to e-mail you.
This totally brightened my day

I will be in the “so close and yet so far away” category… at a wedding in nearby Milwaukee! I am actually psyched for the trip, so I’m not pitying myself too much!

Ok, I’m registering…err…RSVP-ing….whatevering.
I’m not going to BlogHer and I will write you a sad, heartwrenching story about why not. Or something like that, anyway. It will be dramatic!

I definitely have a pitiful story, but because it involves some people who may or may not be my in-laws, I am not sure I can share it for public consumption. I will work on it.

I’m in for the pity party, currently in Chicago and REALLY wishing I was here next week instead of this week…. stupid “real life work” convention. Working on my story, will email post-haste.

I’m not going because I now have no job and no money and am agreeing to be $24,000 deep in loans for the first year of law school alone, with two more broke-ass years to follow. Yay.
I’ll be sending my sob story shortly! Right after I finish reading two more chapters in my summer reading textbook.

Aside from being stuck on this cold, wet, Canadian island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, working two jobs just to keep my silly expensive student life afloat, my reason is simply this:
I’m a man.
Dang.

Ahem… sorry. But if I weren’t going I’d be all over this cuz I am a Coach Whore.

This is so great, Janet. You’re so funny! I love the idea…and not to mention there’s a very cool prize. Wish I could participate in the contest myself, but I guess I’m disqualified since I’ll be an attendee.

Your contest is way better than Blogher. I’m entering the contest, but first let me find something really pathetic to do so I can tell you about it.

I don’t have a really GREAT reason why I’m not going, but I have a few crappy ones. I’m posting your button now. Sorry I’m late. Actually, why am I apologizing? I’m the one who doesn’t get the purse now! Drat!
