2007: still pretty darn good

Once again I’m just a little late with my year-end recap. I like doing these because it makes me realize just how much has changed in one short year. We started the year newly married, living on one income in a tiny apartment. We ended the year not-so-newlywed but still happily wed, both employed, and living in a real HOUSE. I have some “projects” I’d like to tackle in 2008 (on myself, on the house) but I guess I can feel good about 2007. Without further ado…

January

I must not have thought I had any readers, because I disclosed kinda personal info about my private parts. I boozed and crafted in Akron with my girlfriends. I must have been feeling very introspective, because I talked a lot about dieting, general blah-ness and feeling sad about cutting my hair. Can anyone say Winter Blues?

February

I gave up on the South Beach Diet (shocking, I know). I wrote about wanting to own a house, not at all knowing that within months we would actually do such a thing. Thank you, housing market downturn. My sweet husband hit the big 3-0 and we went to our cousins’ wedding in the OC.

March

We hit the three month mark of husband’s unemployment when he got a job offer in San Francisco. We came very close to packing up and moving West, which meant I spent a good long week freaking out. Bloggers came to the rescue! I made some kick ass soft gingersnaps. I didn’t get chosen for fancypants jury duty. Thank god because this guy was the one on trial! (I can tell you that now, don’t worry.) I fell in love with cherry shoes. Still love those things to death.

April

I loved reading the comments on this post about foods we loved in our childhood. PB&J tortillas 4EVA! I ordered 1,268 wedding photos (which I finally put in a damn album in November). The unemployment freaking out continued. Another fun post: Save or Splurge? And lastly, there was a battle of Janet vs. a roach. Hint: I didn’t win.

May

I loved this post on baby names, and clearly you all did too because it hit a comment record for me. I told you all about my city, which I should probably update for my new ‘hood! Will you still be my friend when I confess that my yard sale was seriously a highlight of my year? I feel like one major success of 2007 for me was decluttering, and the yard sale was the main way I did that. That post also got me my one and only (so far) shoutout on DC Blogs. What to call your in-laws was also a hot topic. At the end of the month we took a road trip to the Carolinas, which was awesome.

June

My BFF had a baby! Husband got a job offer for his dream job. It took 6 months of unemployment, but they were so, so worth it in the end. This “confessions” post is still one of my most favorites ever. I turned 26 and talked about what it really means to be called photogenic.

July

LOLCATS! Finally armed with two incomes, we got our first taste of the real estate market, and boy was it expensive! I out-control-freaked my real estate agent. I hosted a BlogHer Pity Party that totally made me feel better about my own life. (Runners up. Winners.) Our car died and so we got a shiny new (used) one!

August

My blog turned two! We almost put an offer on a house. In retrospect, I’m glad we didn’t! And then there were some highly embarrassing moments in New Jersey. I took a (much less embarrassing) trip home to Colorado, where I got to meet my BFF’s baby and was asked to be her “fairy” godmother. You all proved to be A+ students. We bought a house!

September

House details trickled out. I got in my first car wreck ever in our brand new car. That sucked. Andrew got a humongous tv. I got a humongous sniper van. We closed on the house! Let’s just say that in September 2007 we spent more money that I ever thought possible.

October

85 of you willfully delurked. I became a domestic goddess for a weekend. (I’ve been on break since then though.) You all acted at my personal Stacey & Clinton, which I love you for. I liveblogged Halloween.

November

I got 15 minutes (okay, seconds) of fame in the WaPo. I reported back on my fancy outfit you all helped put together. We shared our hypothetical last meals. I painted my room a horrible, horrible color and I owe my mother big time for helping me repaint. We celebrated one year of marriage and gave up the title of newlyweds. We spent Thanksgiving in Delaware, where I started my wishlist for Santa. (My motto: Ask early and often.)

December

I reupholstered some used craigslist chairs, and now I lovelovelove them. More requests from Santa. I got sick…AGAIN. I ended the year with a lot of love and just a little bit of hate.

I love this post! What a great idea. I can’t believe you almost went to jury duty for that guy! So scary…

Congrats on an interesting and fun-filled year! Let’s hope ’08 is the same (minus jury duty threats!)

I loved this post. I think I found you about halfway through the year, so it was nice to catch up.
I just read your baby name game post. We’re still playing that game now. (it loses it’s appeal though when I’m getting close to having a baby and still can’t decide!)

OMG I had forgotten about the pity party…oh gosh, that was fun. And…umm…you kind of forgot to mention the highlight of your year. Why meeting me of course. I can’t believe you left that out!!! ;-)

    Loved that confessions post too.

Things are looking up… you’re both employed and your homeowners in one of the most expensive real estate markets around.

We do miss you in Colorado though!
