love & hate, jobless edition
June 4th, 2008 @ 1:08 am | love & hate | Post a Commentlove: so I’ve got 10 days off between jobs, and people, IT IS GLORIOUS. I could totally get used to this jobless thing. For one, my house has never looked better. I’ve spent the better half of the last four days working on Operation Domicile Beautification.
hate: I don’t have too many pics yet, but you can get a few sneak peeks over at flickr. (Just a note that I often post to flickr even on days I don’t blog if you ever want to hop on over there to stalk me. Wow, do I sound full of myself or what?)
love: my cozy upstairs nook has been completely transformed. The infamous yellow sofa is in here now, and I am laying on it right now as I type to you. This yellow sofa and I have had more intimate time in the last 24 hours in the new room than we did the whole time it lived in the bedroom. Gosh, that sounds gross and not at all what I meant. Also? Our mini-flat-screen TV is on the wall. And no, it’s not a computer monitor.
hate: I can’t seem to peel myself off the couch and into the bed, even though it’s after midnight one AM.
love: who cares? I don’t have to go to work tomorrow!
hate: my To Do list is still a mile long. I must think that when my new job begins I’ll never be able to run another errand ever again.
love: I purchased some home décor gems from Pottery Barn Kids today. For my house sans kids, yes. (Here (elephant) they are (circle mirror).
hate: I got lots of weird looks in PB Kids because I didn’t have any toddlers leaving a path of destruction in my wake, nor was I wearing a wedding ring. In fact, I’m surprised they even let me in the store!
love: my birthday wishlist is totally coming together in my head. And yes, I plan on sharing it with you all, not that I’m implying you need to buy me something. I just like to tell you what I’m lusting after.
hate: I have a tiny problem where I just want to buy everything for myself RIGHTNOW and not have to wait.
love: one of the things I want to accomplish tomorrow is entering Rachel‘s contest. I’m thinking about making this recipe; I think husband would love it.
hate: is coconut milk too fattening? Do you think I can substitute a can of light coconut milk instead? What about brown rice? (Have I mentioned I suck at following recipes?)
love: OH! How could I forget to mention this earlier? Thanks to your helpful suggestions and encouragement, I have solved the plate problem. First, I hung the 9 remaining plates on wire hangers. They aren’t going anywhere now, especially not down. Then, today at Pottery Barn I found one of the plates on clearance for $3. It’s the green leaf one, so I will have three of that kind and only one of the red poppy one that broke, but at least it still technically matches the set. Problem solved!
hate: one small glitch is that now I can’t find the tenth wire hanger, so I need to stop by the hardware store and buy another tomorrow. Then my plate hanging project will truly be D-O-N-E! Oh, and I still need to get a refund for those disc things. Hate!
love: Lindsey is getting married this weekend! I am so thrilled for you, Linds, and I hope it’s a magical and fun weekend. Enjoy every moment and don’t let anything stress you out, okay?
hate: I’m sorry I missed participating in your virtual wedding celebration today.
love: Barack Obama’s speech tonight. It gave me chills.
hate: Dared myself to go to Forever 21 today. Bad idea. However, I did learn something new about myself. The number of items I see in a store that I can’t tell if they are a shirt or a dress before I throw my hands up and walk out? 19.
love: Oy. It’s late. I don’t think that last sentence even made sense. Must go to bed. Leave your loves and hates in the comments, dolls!

Yay! I was pretty sure I was gonna be first, BECAUSE:
Love: I am not jobless, but I do have a job that hardly EVER requires me to be up early in the morning. I often find myself unable to peel myself offline and into my bed. Hey, other people fall asleep in front of the TV, I absolve myself
Hate: Tomorrow I actually DO have to get up early and yet I am still awake. Bad habits die hard.
Love: I think I’m falling back in love with blogging. I recently discovered a few new authors and went back through my archives to find a date something happened (handy how blogs can be a record as well) and re-read some of my old posts – and am pleasantly surprised to feel like maybe I FINALLY am starting to understand myself!
Hate: I am still just ridiculously bad at posting on a regular basis. MUST. GET. DISCIPLINE.
Love: That you are about to post a list of birthday wants. I always get a kick out of seeing what ELSE you and I either A) want or B) already have in common.
Hate: That I STILL haven’t met you! Wouldn’t have this been the perfect time, too? We would have had bad stay-up-late habits together!

Haha, when I was jobless I could totally relate not being able to get up off the couch. I would get sucked into TV shows, or reading, or doing something or… you know, being lazy.

I don’t think brown rice would work in the pudding but light coconut milk might but it won’t be as creamy.

Yay for in-between work time! I loved my week of leisure so much, and I think that’s when Ted and I finally bonded for real.
I’m glad you solved your plate issue! I think it’s kind of nice that one of the plates will have three instead of two; it makes it a little more random/vintage.
Love: On Monday, I ran for 16 minutes out of my 30-minute run/walk!
Hate: My calves are so not happy today.
Love: There are less than two months until I visit my sister for the second annual shopping extravaganza!
Hate: I’m on a spending freeze in the meantime, but I want to buy everything on the planet.
Love: My carpool appears to have dissipated, so I am back to my normal morning routine.
Hate: My carpool buddy never called or emailed to wrap up anything, and I feel oddly rejected.

Hate: The fact that all of those shirts/dresses look like dresses on me even if they are really supposed to be shirts. The joys of being short.
Love: My closet is clean and organized so I feel like I have clothes again.
Hate: Being at work right now and every day.
Love: Not being monitored, which means I get to catch up on my blogroll everyday.
Hate: That I have to workout again today.
Love: Being able to update my running blog with yesterday’s workout.
Hmm too many things to hate today so I’d better stop. Have fun with the time off work.

the best part about forever 21 is their accessories. unless i have at least an hour to kill i won’t even look at the clothes section. and i know EXACTLY what you mean about the shirt/dress confusion. happens to me all the time, i feel so old!

Love: I just got a promotion!
Hate: I have the sneaking suspicion that I’ll be expected to do more of that… whaddyacallit? Oh yeah–WORK.

Coconut milk is on the fatty side, but the good thing is that it is a medium-chain fatty acid. Plus coconut milk is full of so many health benefits that I think the benefits outweigh the fat content. Hub-E and I have been on a Thai and Indian food kick for the last 6 months and have used a LOT of coconut milk in our cooking. My weight hasn’t changed, so I must be doing something right. This is an interesting article:

LOVE: Cooking/sauteing with coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. Oh, the aromas!
HATE: That I feel unmotivated to cook because I have a full time secular job. Boo.
LOVE: Having big groups of people over to entertain, like we did last Sunday.
HATE: That this stinkin’ cold wind won’t go away! So sick of wind!
LOVE: My little lap dog Reesie

I can’t wait for MY break. I am dying of jealousy. Oh well, soon enough.
LOVE: Being able to really visualize and daydream about my new apartment.
HATE: It’s not quite yet time to start shopping for the new place–can’t acquire anything that I’m just going to have to move across the country.
LOVE: School is coming so soon! All the little tasks are moving fast and furious now.
HATE: I just signed for an ungodly amount of loans. My dad had to talk me through it over the phone so I didn’t run away!

HATE: This morning when I woke up I thought it was Thursday. It is not Thursday. WHY.

Hate: that there isn’t one or one like it anywhere in the whole of Australia

Hate: that I’m so far away from all the Obama excitement

I’m so glad someone else realizes that if you can’t tell if something is a shirt or a dress, it should never be worn.
Also loving Obama right now too!
And lastly, your house looks lovely! It is exactly how I would want to decorate a house, if I had one

Okay, I just spent an entire hour looking at all your flickr pictures. Does that officially make me your stalker?
I lol’d at your forever 21 comment. I think I actually have a dress from there that I wear as a shirt. That place is almost completely full of clothes that ONLY look good with leggings. Will they please get the memo that leggings are NOT FOR EVERYONE? (And are they out of style yet? I have never bought a pair because once I heard that if you wear a trend once, you’re technically too old to wear it the second time around. And I specifically remember wearing leggings when I was in the 8th grade with a ginormous sweatshirt. But then again, I also wore tapered jeans back in the day, and I wore them again this time around….confusing.)

I’m also in the in-between stages of jobs and while I want to get everything done I also want to lie on the couch and watch trashy daytime TV.
I feel your pain about Forever 21. I’m short so I have the same problem as the Playful Professional.
Enjoy your time off!

Coconut milk is fattening as far as calories go. BUT it is a good kind of fat in that it is a medium chain fatty acid so it’s better for you. Plus coconut milk, oil, and water have so many health benefits that I think the benefits far outweight the calories. Hub-E and I have been on an Indian and Thai food kick for at least 6 months now and we have used dozens of cans of coconut milk in our cooking. My weight hasn’t changed. So that’s saying something!
LOVE: Cooking with virgin, cold pressed, unrefined coconut oil. Yummm.. just smell that aroma. Try Nutiva or any other brand at a health food store.
HATE: That the Internet ate my comment that I tried to leave earlier today.
LOVE: That I only have 4 payments left on our truck!
HATE: That I still have 4 payments left on our truck.
LOVE: My new-ish little doggie Reese who is becoming a very cuddly lap dog.
HATE: That my cat is very anti cuddly lap cat.
LOVE: That the work day is over!
HATE: That I have to start it all over again tomorrow.
LOVE: That Trader Joe’s is finally, finally, FINALLY coming to my town at the end of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love: using light cocunut milk. I think it’s even nicer, i always feel like full cream is just too much.
Hate: That I don’t know what forever 21 is. I feel a bit silly, is it a game or just a store??? so confused haha
