you know you’re getting old when…
June 24th, 2008 @ 11:08 pm | blonde moments, life | Post a Comment…your birthday includes absolutely no booze and it’s still fabulous.
Thanks so much to everyone for the birthday love and wishes today. I didn’t mean to be in stealth mode, I was just SO DANG BUSY all day long (Tuesday = Work, unfortunately) I couldn’t find the time to post.
I have this little problem about birthdays where for 364 days I think only logically about them. “Awww, it’s just like any other day. Not a big deal. No need to fuss, we all have ‘em. Psha, it’s just a Tuesday.” And then MY birthday comes around and I’m all like “WHEEEEEEE! IT’S MY BIRTHDAY BIATCHES WHERE’S MY LOOT?”
(Okay kidding about the loot part, but seriously, it’s the same little flip that switches when you get married. Bridezilla. BIRTHDAYZILLA.)
So as much as I’m all demure like I don’t care much about my birthday, I think I might actually care and thank you for being so nice and loving to me. Mwa!
I kept a running list of things that made me happy all day long:
- Wore my new pink shoes from Target, and they didn’t give me too many blisters
- Free venti iced coffee from Starbucks
- Treated self to a completely indulgent bagel and cream cheese
- Tons of birthday emails, texts, calls, and facebook wall messages (I knew there was a reason I amassed 466 facebook friends)
- Opened presents, got so many things I asked for and enough new jewelry for the whole week (I promise to take pics and show you all later!)
- Low humidity - no hair frizz
- Still thrilled that one of my best friends just got engaged!
- Officemates surprised me with Georgetown Cupcakes, and somehow read my mind that all I wanted was lemon flavored
- Ate homemade soup for the third day in a row and was still not sick of it
- Arjewtino linked to me (Happy Birthday to him and to Marianne, too!)
- Remembered to pack cute jeans to put on between work and going out (who wants to wear work clothes after 6 pm?)
- Finally saw Sex & the City movie with my girls; perfect two hour mental vacation
- Nats game meant Metro was running extra trains and I got home in record time
- Husband came home from a business trip so I could hug and kiss him
- Blogged about my day with an hour to spare! Whew!
Oh dear, I am sure I am missing things but the point is that today was a good day. Love to you all!

Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’m so glad you had a lovely day! (And really, it’s YOUR day. Birthdayzilla it up!)

Happy birthday! Sounds like a fabulous day - any day with cupcakes is good in my book.
I always want someone to make a big deal about my birthday but so far it’s been nearly 27 years of pretty boring days. I think I’m finally getting over that desire because it’s probably not going to happen.

Sounds like an awesome day!
I’m also a Birthdayzilla, and even though it’s over a month away, got a trifle sad when i found out that most of my work colleagues are off on holidays on my birthday. NO!

First off, a very happy birthday, if belated.
Secondly, I wanted to comment on the phenomenon of birthdays. It’s funny — every year goes by and still a part of me wants it to be a day that’s somehow different from all the other ones, but the older I get the less remarkable they are. Is that the case with everyone — do we always want the day to be special, even if it isn’t?
I rather think it’s silly of us to expect our birthdays to be anything of note, but there’s some small kernel inside me somewhere that does. I’m not sure where that comes from — childhood expectations? Flirtatious hopes for something miraculous? I don’t know.
I don’t even *mention* my birthday anymore when it comes for fear that I’ll be perceived as being an ass and self-centred. (not that I’m calling you an ass, Janet, this is just how I feel) The question is, how important are birthdays anyway? How *should* we feel about them, really? Does it matter once you’re ancient like me? (30)

Happy birthday! I feel the same way… I ignore, ignore, ignore my birthday all year, but then I’m always a teensy bit disappointed when it’s just another Tuesday!

I thought it was your birthday yesterday! Happy day! I believe that we will need pictures of your new Target shoes in addition to the jewelry, you know, so we have proof.
