love & hate, hot summer edition
July 30th, 2009 @ 8:18 pm | love & hate | Post a Commentlove: My new job lets me work from home a few days a week (or I should say I let myself work from home since I only sort of have a boss).
hate: I don’t have any good snacks in the house for my days working at home, for fear I would eat them all at once!
love: My brilliant husband got a blog post published on the Huffington Post today (thought I’m somewhat hesitant to directly link because it spoils my semi-anonymity, and his too).
hate: Do all of those late nights and all-nighters at his job become instantly worth it for one cool internet moment? Hahahaaaaa, no. But it’s still cool.
love: This Orla Kiely bag and these lovely Frye peep toe pumps. (found at Making it Lovely)
hate: The non-bargain, non-clearance price tag on each of those darling items.
love: Traveling home to Denver in one month for my 10-year reunion, and then to Isle of Palms, SC for a fun getaway with friends.
hate: Still must survive a full month of muggy, hot DC summer in a pantsuit.
love: The idea of making my own yogurt, and then whipping it up into fruity berry smoothies or herby tzatziki dip.
hate: Whenever I think about the making of dairy products, my stomach churns a little. (Pun intended.) (But if Larissa can do it, so can I, right?)
love: I’ve been eating a semi-meatless diet lately, and loving it. This is made much easier by a bounty of summer produce.
hate: I don’t think I’ll ever be succesful in going 100% vegetarian.
love: Not working at my former workplace any more. It was dysfunctional and drama-licious, two things I have very low tolerance for.
hate: My new job, while overall a huge improvement in every way, is still very new, and therefore has me swinging from “I am totally competent and have everything under control” to “I am such a fraud and am in over my head askghfkvjdflkahsflkajdh” and back again in a span of four minutes.
love: Between me learning to golf and my husband making an effort to leave the office earlier at night, I’ve been spending so much more quality time with him!
hate: I suck at golf. And it’s all the worse because one round I was actually pretty good, and had to learn the hard way that it was a total fluke. I think I’m going to start smuggling margaritas into my water bottles.
What are you smuggling into your water bottles loving and hating these days?

That is great you are cutting back on your meat consumption!

It sounds like the new job is going well, albeit the newness of anything can be overwhelming. I am so jealous of your work-from-home situation! Although only sort of having a boss would throw me, I think, if it meant that my workload was unregulated…
Anyway! My loves and hates:
Love: My friend trusts me to coordinate her wedding tomorrow.
Hate: It means I am overseeing many many friends and family members.
Love: I have mostly everything under control, if the rehearsal is any indication.
Hate: I am still up at this insane (for me) hour of 12:27am, brain gears still spinning.
Love: There is an open bar at the wedding!
Hate: It’s just wine and beer, which does not help me much.
Love: My Gap party is a week from Saturday!

I was in DC this week for a conference and holy hell was it sticky. And hot. And did I mention sticky? I thought of you often in that, “How does Janet manage to even wear CLOTHES in this weather?”
I couldn’t handle it.

Hi. I miss you. I’m glad the new job is fab and I love that you can work from home (best! thing! ever!)
Love: the feeling of being at the beginning of something Fantastic!
Hate: the feeling of ending someone that was pretty great.
Love: butterflies in my stomach, for reasons both apparent and not
Hate: ….mmmm, nope, don’t hate anything about this.
xoxo

I am hating that IT’S SO HARD TO THINK UP THINGS TO BLOG ABOUT.
I am loving that we’re moving to our new house in less than 2 weeks.
I am hating boxes. and packaging tape. and anything remotely related to packing, OMG.

Yay for the new job. And I am adjusting to not working from home and kind of having a boss. That’s how it was for the past couple of years and now its back to normal! Enjoy it up. And I’m super excited for you to come home. Tell Andrew congrats on the blog.
