summer, I like you already

This weekend was:

— date night to a lovely French restaurant. We spent a small fortune on food, drinks, and a babysitter, but it was so nice and long overdue.

— a walk to the local market where we ate from food trucks and let the kids run around the grass and play in the fountains

— a double-nap Saturday (for me AND the kids)

— a trip to the gym after far too long

— taking the kids to the neighborhood pool, which was slightly nutty but fun anyway

— drinking homemade sangria on the patio while grilling dinner and kids happily playing

— taking a hot bath for the first time since we moved into this house (over 6 months ago!)

— finally catching up on Mount Laundry

— over way too quickly!

Here is the sangria recipe I’ve been using, adapted from here:

  • 750ml (1 bottle) red wine. I’ve been using cabernet from a box.
  • 0.5 cup Courvoisier cognac
  • 1.5 cups orange juice
  • 2 ounces orange liquer
  • 1.5 cups Fresca
  • 2 ounces vodka (if you’re feeling a little crazy)
  • Plus whatever fruit you have on hand: berries, oranges, apples, etc.

Serve over ice and be careful because you get tipsy fast!

You look great & why has it taken one of us so long to initiate making sangria?!?!

    Love romantic French

That all sounds so, so lovely! (Except the laundry part, my arch nemesis.)

Please bring this exact recipe over this weekend. And obviously add the vodka. I’m always feeling crazy! :)

Mmmm sangria. I think we should just drink sangria and eat paella or frenchie food all summer. The summer of overindulgence. Has a nice ring to it, no? ;)

Oooh, Fresca is a good idea! I’ve always used sprite, but I bet Fresca adds a nice crisp flavor. I’ll have to try that next time I make sangria.
