the weekend was too short
September 11th, 2005 @ 9:23 pm | dc, food | Post a CommentIs it already Sunday night? It simply can’t be, because my gigantic laundry pile is still teasing me from the other room: “Wash me…or go to work without underwear tomorrow!”
I swear I wasn’t entirely lazy this weekend. Yesterday we went up to College Park for the Maryland/Clemson football game. Of course, we were decked out in bright orange shirts, tiger paw stickers, tiger paw flip flops, etc, making us quite the target for Terrapin hecklers. Luckily, we sat in the Clemson section and were mostly safe, especially since the Tigers came from behind to win the game by scoring 14 points in the 4th quarter. Andrew’s dad was QUITE happy about that. And Alli and I were happy to read USWeekly during the game. And try to guess the carat size of diamond rings we saw. All in all, we are v. devoted football fans.
Today we ventured a whopping one block down the street to attend Adams Morgan Day, a fun neighborhood fesitval with food, music, crafts, and the like. Adams Morgan is a great neighborhood: With its diversity comes REALLY GOOD FOOD, and I am not talking about Jumbo Slice Pizza. Today we munched on El Salvadorian, Ethiopian, and Indian food, but could have probably chosen among 20 different kinds of ethnic goodies. There was nary a hot dog or hamburger in sight. It is funny to think about the way I ate growing up and the way I eat now. I recall that my favorite food when I was little was called “Kentucky Colonel,” a casserole of potatoes, cheddar cheese, and ham bits. Now, we cook or eat non-”American” food almost every night.
Speaking of cooking, we did make an Italian meal tonight from (the stunningly gorgeous) Giada deLaurentiis’ Everyday Italian cookbook. I watch the Food Network every Saturday and Sunday morning that I can, and she is one of my favorites. Tonight we made chicken parmesan with her homemade marinara sauce. The sauce tasted fresh and sweet and the chicken, instead of being breaded, was sauteed with fresh rosemary and thyme. The rosemary is from my mini-garden of pots out front. See, I could totally be on Apprentice:Martha Stewart couldn’t I?!? (which, by the way, premieres on the 21st!)
Just to further prove my culinary talents, tomorrow we are having people over for the Monday Night Football game and I am serving chicken wings out of a bag from Costco ![]()

Giada is the hottest woman on earth. This will not be debated. Good night.
