November 9th, 2005 @ 9:35 pm | miscellany | Post a CommentI don’t often have very nice things to say about George Bush. In fact, I’m not sure I have ever said something nice about him. But, today I will. Because I am classy like that and can even say nice things about people I don’t like.
Packed in the President’s craptastic energy bill this year was a teeny tiny little provision to extend daylight saving time by two weeks. Presumably, this will help us save energy because we won’t have to turn lights on quite as early in the evening. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take effect until 2007. But at least I know that for two weeks in 2007, when Bush is on his way out, I can thank him for two extra weeks of daylight.
I wish they could extend it for the whole year. Getting used to the darkness that blankets my office before 5 pm every day makes me want to quit my job and move to the equator. Or Hawaii. Anyone game?
I blame the extended darkness on my very messy house because? Who wants to clean when it’s always bedtime? And I blame the darkness for making me run on the treadmill instead of in the park. And on my cat going insane. (You know, because it’s been dark for HOURS by the time we get home to feed him and that is Not. Okay. MEEE-OWWWW.)

I realize that my “saying something nice” wasn’t actually very nice, so I will say this:
I think the First Lady looked awesome the dress she wore last week at dinner with the Prince and Camilla. Love the color and the neckline

Oh man, I’ve been wanting to bitch about daylight savings since it started last week. I hate, hate, hate having it dark at 4:30!! I mean HATE it.
I had heard about the extension. I’m anxious to see if we’ll even notice it.

I soooo agree with you chicha. The whole “dark” thing not only pisses me off, it also it suppppeer depressing. That is why I tan during the winter. It makes me feel like I’m actually somewhere sunny and warm. You and I are on the same wavelength- lets be S.A.D.(seasonal affective disorder) sista’s k? Your cat is also welcome to join.

Thank you for your help w/my blog, Janet! I’m game for the move to Hawaii, and I agree with you ladies on daylight savings, but I usually like it for a while before I get tired of it…gets me excited for the holidays and cold weather. Then again, I live in CA where the cold weather is high thirties at the very worst!
