the problem with holiday shopping

***Updated 11/28/05 after I did some shopping this weekend

I have good intentions around the holidays, I really do. For weeks I have been making lists and thinking of gifts to buy or make for all the people on my list this year. I even bought something for my sister and my future sister-in-law already. But the problem is that when I go shopping, I just want to buy for Me, Me, Me!

For instance, this weekend I went to Target to stock up on some household essentials and to see what goodies I might find for friends and family. What did I come home with? A pair of shoes for myself! Please understand, they were only $17 and I really need more closed-toed flats for winter. And by “need” I might actually mean “want.”

(Please also note gratuitous photo of large diamond. Try not to let it distract you from above-mentioned shoes. Aren’t they cute?)

Since I have pretty much already changed the subject to Me, I present you with my Christmas Wish List 2005. Please feel free to add your own in the comments, either to provide me with inspiration or because I probably really need to buy YOU something.

1. SJP’s new scent Lovely. Have I smelled it? No. But Oprah has and I trust her. (Edit: Okay, I was wrong and should not blindly trust Oprah. I went to the store to smell it and was underwhelmed. Darn)
2. New stuff from Sephora. Perhaps an eyeshadow brush, eyeshadow, loose powder, lip gloss (Nars Positano color), or anything else yummy.
3. Vera Bradley cosmetics bag.
4. New sheets for our new queen-sized bed! (Hooray for that!) (Edit: Bought it for myself!)
5. An allergy-proof mattress pad for the new bed. (Edit: Bought one!)
6. New dress socks to wear with new pointy-toed black boots, the exact perfect pair of which I have yet to find.
7. Anything artsy and/or crafty. Love all that stuff.
8. Everything at Crate and Barrel and Williams Sonoma. Oh, wait! I get to register for it!
8. And just for good measure, in case a benevolent multimillionaire blogstalker is out there trying to steal me from my fiance by buying me lavish gifts, a fully loaded brand new iBook, please!
9. Oh, and World Peace, a win for Democrats in 2006, winning lotto numbers, my own plane, and a kitten and puppy. Thanks, Santa!

  1. I have the cosmetics bag (different pattern) - it’s a great size!!

  2. I have the same problem! And then I always wonder why I never have enough money to shop for everyone else. But, oh! did you see my new boots? and this great new jacket? Oops.

  3. Oh, that is a pretty ring. And only $17.00 at Target? What a steal. Oh, you were talking about the shoes? I didn’t even notice them. Hee-hee.

Christmas shopping. Yummy. I am hoping to get mine done in Europe this year (just like last year…I see a pattern here).

  4. Target is so dangerous. Those flats are so cute!

  5. Shoes at Target are always allowed, no matter the time of year. I am getting a VB bag in Picadilly Plum for Christmas and I am excited. Check out the color, you will like it :)

  6. Man, I am so bummed! I have those SAME shoes in black, but from Nordstrom… and I paid $30! Don’t you HATE it when that happens?
