bedtime for bonzo
December 13th, 2005 @ 9:24 pm | life | Post a CommentI wanted to make my next blog post a photo essay of the sweatshop I am currently operating out of my living room. This place is strewn with fabric remnants, four frillion bits of thread, ironing equipment, and all of my sewing machine junk. I am in the process of making a bunch of Christmas presents, which I’d love to brag about endlessly by posting pictures. Unfortunately, some of the recipients might see the pics and be less than surprised on Christmas morning.
Not to mention that I don’t actually have time for this third world photo essay because I have declared 10:00 PM as the Official Bedtime For the Night. Normally, we don’t get to sleep until well after midnight, which, frankly, is not working for me. (Or probably my boss.)
Getting to bed at a reasonable hour is harder than it seems. That is because we have a warped sense of time. For instance, at 6:00 tonight we were discussing all the things we needed to do before our Official Bedtime, which was originally planned for 9:00 PM. In three hours, we needed to commute home, work out, go to Safeway, cook and eat dinner, clean up, bake a double batch of cookies for a holiday party, gnxl*, put some time in at the sweatshop (ahem, holidaygiftmakingshop), do some online Christmas shopping, and pack for the gym (which, shockingly, takes longer than you might imagine).
All in preparation for a 7:00 AM personal training session at the gym. Wish me luck!
*gnxl — This is a term coined by someone in my family (Mom? Are you reading? Who made this up?) that means putting a new load of laundry in the wash, moving the wet stuff to the dryer, and folding the dry, clean stuff. Some might call this “doing the laundry” but we call it “gnxling.” Say it with me now, people, “guh-nix-ull”

I can’t believe that “gnxl” is not in the dictionary, as it is one of the most efficient verbs (yes, it is a verb) in the non-English language. It was coined by your father’s side of the family; his sister Deb coined it in about 1965. Wow, it’s 40!

I love that word.
Speaking of laundry, the hubby “does” the laundry at our house. Meaning he puts it in the washer. I then take it out, dry it, and then fold it and put it away. BUT HE ALWAYS brags that HE DOES THE LAUNDRY at our house. Whatever.
I can’t wait to see the fun stuff you are sewing. But you can’t ruin any surpriese for your friends and family.
Okay, are you serious that you usually stay up that late? Because I am asleep NO LATER than 10:30. But the pajamas are on at 9:30.
Oh how I love sleep.

gnxl…very interesting! About my hair - I’m lucky to have an amazing “stylist” who needs minimal instruction. I just told her that I wanted it up, but not too tight and stark. She did the rest. My dress was fuschia - a major steal from Ann Taylor last winter.
