weekend roundup

A lot of great things happened this weekend, even if you don’t count the gorgeous weather. Among the more exciting was the outing with my girlfriends to the National Gallery of Art. I am glad we went to see a specific exhibit rather than just wandering around the museum. Because I know so little about art, it’s more fun if I can learn a lot about one artist rather than attempt to make sense of a whole genre, which just makes my head hurt. But Cezanne, I feel like I kinda get the guy now.

Aside from having to crawl around the masses of people armed with fanny packs and audiotour thingies, I highly recommend visiting before the exhibit ends on May 7.

Yes, I know that painting is not a Cezanne.

Andrew and I ended up making more money this weekend than we spent, which warms my cold, frugal heart. He played poker on Friday night and raked in $110 and I babysat for our landlords upstairs last night and made $120. Now I remember why I loved babysitting so much in college!

With all that cash burning a hole in my pocket, I felt compelled to make a Costco run this morning. I treated myself to a blender so we could make healthy breakfast smoothies. However, between the Costco and the Safeway, I spent THREE HOURS shopping for groceries. Oy. Luckily, Andrew scrubbed the house (and even the toilet!!!) during the three hours I was gone, and I came home to a sparkly clean apartment!

Can I just repeat that for people who may not have been paying attention: Andrew cleaned the toilet! With real cleaner! This is why I am marrying him!

Tonight was “family dinner” night, as usual for a Sunday. Most weeks, Alli and Meghan come over and we make some kind of Mexican food. Tonight, I made a yummy field green salad with homemade balsalmic vinaigrette, goat cheese, dried cranberries, and toasted walnuts. Andrew made a chicken dish called pollo ranchero from this cookbook. It was seriously, seriously delicious, if I may say so myself.

  1. Sounds like a great weekend! While I was gone Michael did some serious cleaning too. I am thinking that women should take trips more often.
The salad looks so yummy. What do you put in your vinaigrette?

  2. Oh my gosh - cleaning a toilet and making a food with a recipe, impressive! On a side note, we have that same cook book! (Did you maybe give me that cookbook at my Bridal Shower? I can’t remember.) We’ve only made one thing from it I think, but may I just say “Pollo Ranchero, here we come!”

  3. Hell, girl! He sounds like a great catch… now if you can just get him to cook and clean NAKED, you’ll be all set with the world’s most perfect man! :)

  4. I have no problem with naked cleaning. But the naked cooking - there’s some serious splatter danger there.

  5. You’ve got me doubled over laughing now! True, though about the cooking. Maybe you could wear an apron for Janet and just let the butt hang out?

  6. Okay, huh?! You made how much $$ babysitting…for one night!? Were you babysitting their gold and diamonds??

Because if that’s what the going rate is for a babysitter I am going to A) NEVER get one and thus live like a hermit inside my house with my baby, and B) quit my job to become a babysitter!

    Holy cow!

  7. Kelly, an apron isn’t a bad idea. I do, after all, have a sweet ass.

  8. J & A-

P.S. Andrew - I love you, but please no naked cooking on “family dinner” night. ewww. gross. ew.

  9. You are a rock star for attempting to go downtown right now. I thought I would kill at least five tourists wearing unusually short shorts and FBI hats this week. This is the time of year that I leave the city as much as possible. Murr.

If the beau has cleaned the toilet with his own hands and without being physically made to do so, this is clearly 1) adequate reason enough to spend your life with him, and 2) an argument in favor of cloning.

    Cheers!

  10. that looks so good.
ever since our honeymoon me and hubby have been on a big mexican kick. cant get enough.
