a day in the life

In the past 24 hours I…

…stayed up late to blog about my wedding.

…finally went to bed at 1 AM, trying not to wake the other person in my bed, and read some of my magazine by the light of the stovetop. (If you wonder how I can lay in my bed in my bedroom and yet still have enough light from the stovetop for reading, then you obviously have not paid a visit to my teeny tiny apartment.)

…slept right on past the alarm AND the snooze and called in sick to work. Mental health is just as important as physical health, people.

….ate Pull-Aparts for breakfast and lunch and dessert. You may be more familiar with Pull-Aparts as Monkey Bread, but all you really need to know are the four ingredients: margarine, biscuits, sugar, and cinnamon. After all, what hearty midwestern favorite doesn’t start with margarine?

…wore my pretty Charles David pointy-toed heels to a very fun happy hour.

…drank three martinis at said happy hour.

…waited an hour for a bus to get home from said happy hour, but honestly didn’t care because hello? three martinis!

  1. Sounds like a good time to me.

(and I like knowing that I’m not the only one with a small apartment!!)

Okay….not familiar with pull aparts. But they sounds YUMMY!!

  2. Mmmm. Monkey bread. (said in my best Homer impression)
    And Charles David? My favorite.

  3. Everyone needs a mental health day. And 3 martinis! This is what a bride to be deserves!

  4. ugh. Happy hour is now getting its revenge, but boy was I happy!

I am having monkey bread this weekend at Mother’s day brunch.

  5. I know exactly what you mean about not minding a long trip on public transport when you’re buzzed. I did it on Wednesday after eating dinner with my best friend up in Silver Spring and having a mere two glasses of happy hour-priced wine. The hour and 15 minute trip home was bearable after that.

  6. Monkey bread!! That is so funny you mention that. We were at the store yesterday and we kept finding monkey bread–in the freezer section, in the bakery section. So Kirk and I just started crying, “MONKEY BREAD!” as we walked through the aisles. Okay, we’re idiots.

  7. I’m glad we were able to do happy hour on Thursday. I was a little tired on Friday, but it was totally worth it!

  8. We actually used your recipe for our monkey bread today. It was a little uncooked in the center. Any tips? We’re thinking about using fewer biscuits. It was still very yummy, though.
