today I labored, yesterday I shopped
September 4th, 2006 @ 10:14 pm | miscellany | Post a CommentThis afternoon Andrew and I decided to take the term Labor Day very seriously, and we cleaned out our pantry, closets, and storage space. Granted, the square footage of all of those spaces combined is probably about 9 feet, but they were filled with tons of moldy junk as a result of the flooding from a few months ago. It feels good to get rid of stuff! I feel liberated!
Especially since I can’t seem to stop shopping lately. The wedding provides me legitimate reasons to run up my credit card bill to new limits: a dress for the shower, a dress for the rehearsal dinner, accessories, shoes, more, more, more!
Yesterday, I reached a new shopping high when I bought a real-life designer dress. As in, a designer who has been a guest judge on the bestest show ever, Project Runway. Please tell me you approve, since it is way, way outside of my boring, no-prints-allowed, Kohl’s/Gap/Ann Taylor LOFT comfort zone.

And what good is a new dress without a hot, hot pair of shoes? Now I just need some help with accessories.

In defense of this wild spending, I won my J.Crew rehearsal dinner dress on an eBay auction for $46, which is a full $200 cheaper! (I have no idea how this can possibly be legal, except that I found it from a PowerSeller on eBay! Please don’t call the cops on me.)
I know I still owe you answers from your questions last week, and since Andrew is leaving me for the next four days for a business trip to Nashville (sniff, sniff), I’ll have plenty of time this week to blog, blog, and blog some more.
Until then, go visit my newlywed friend Ella because she has a very important question for you!

Janet!
Your taste is tres fabulous! The dress is gorgeous and the shoes are very hott!
A wedding is permission to charge like you’ve never charged before. Keep up the good work!

Sigh. The DVF wrap dress. I have always wanted one and never had the reason/positive body image to get one.
You are so right about the wedding spending. “$34 for a flower girl t-shirt? CHARGE! $28 plus shipping for a glittery unity candle? SOLD! new iPod? IT’S MINE!”

Oh lord, the wedding spending. My parents gave JG and me a budget, and told us that we could “keep the change”. So we set our own internal budget so we could have some change, but since I could, uh, expense out anything remotely wedding-related, any semblance to restraint went out the door. After the wedding, though, I put myself on an embargo to stop looking at retail websites “just in case”…

That outfit is hot!!
And I never pay full price for J. Crew. I can’t quite figure out why there’s so much brand-new J. Crew stuff on eBay, but… I’m not complaining!

Great dress! Great shoes! And good for you with all the cleaning. I love that feeling of accomplishment that comes from cleaning out your closests…
I went shopping yesterday, too. I was at the Pentagon City mall to get my hair done (er, fixed) at Bubbles and I ended up in Forever 21. After perusing through a 20 lb. copy of the latest Vogue to get ideas for my new hairstyle when I was on the plane Sunday afternoon, I had lots of hot new outfit ideas in my head. I ended up with the cute outfit that I’m wearing right now (and out to my friend’s bday dinner tonight in Dupont)! Woo! With my new hair, no one’s going to recognize me!

I seriously need to take a moment because first, THAT DRESS, and THEN those SHOES? In a row? I mean, those should have been in separate posts because that was way too much awesomeness for me to take in one blow. That is like the manager at Starbucks telling you that your drink is on the house, AND here is a free coupon for your next one. All is right with the world. God. LOVE that dress. DVF is my idol.

It took me forever to realize who DVF was, I even almost googled it. How embarrassing!
