best year ever

I hope I’m not too late for my year in review. I mean, 2006 was soooooo, like, last year. Oh well, here goes nothing!

*************

January

I resolved to lose weight, plan my wedding, and stop being a slob. I painted pottery and put the deposit down on the wedding location. We starting looking for a 2nd kitty and met Freddy, who would later come live with us (renamed Hugo).

February

Howie and Hugo met as brothers and it was touch and go until they bonded over chasing a rat. I fell off the diet wagon to celebrate Andrew’s 29th birthday. I moved from blogger over to wordpress and my new loveisblonde domain. I reminisced about Mardi Gras and confessed my giant fear of shopping for a wedding dress.

March

I wrote a post about my favorite plastic surgeon that got 15 comments, which was a record at the time for little old me. It also led to a billion google hits from people searching for “vagina surgery.” I wrote the inaugural love and hate post. The vision for my dream wedding started coming together (except when I was gagging over the price of paper). Oh, and my sister came to visit from Seattle!

April

I bought my dream wedding dress. I bitched and moaned about dieting and tried to motivate myself with old photos of when I was skinny. I wondered about the merits of changing my name. I found the bestest banana bread recipe ever, and it’s even low fat!

May

OMG so embarrassing but I tried the most wack-ass diet on the face of the planet for about 3 days. My mom came to visit and we took my first day trip to Baltimore. I figured out how to save $8,000 over the next 50 years. I pondered what it felt like to be coupled up and yet still on the market (for friends). I even offered free vacuuming advice!

June

I started attending 6:00 am boot camp (and actually stuck with it up until the wedding! A miracle!). My girlfriends colonized a new sorority based on Oprah’s favorite libation. While I was in Mexico planning the wedding, I got my 15 minutes of fame in the Washington Post. But the month got EVEN BETTER when I sliced my eyeball with my razor while shaving my underarms in the shower. That one definitely went down in the dumb blonde recordbooks. I also turned 25 and made a list of 25 things to accomplish during the next year. Hmmmm I really should go back and look at that list to see how I’m doing. And last but not least, I bought myself a shiny new Macbook (#2 love of my life). Phew, June was BUSY!

July

We registered for wedding gifts and didn’t kill each other. We grew mold. And it was nasty. I confessed the craziness of my inner monolgue. We discovered that our fat cat had gotten even fatter. WAY FATTER. I called my mother a MILF in front of the whole world. My girlfriends threw me a kickass bachelorette party. I detailed the contents of my shoe collection.

August

We hit the 100 days mark for the wedding and sent out invitations, but not after lots of calligraphy practice. I got LASIK, which was by far the best thing I have ever done for myself and totally worth every penny. (The funny thing is that if I had never hurt my eye back in June, I’m not sure I would have gotten LASIK, talk about making lemonade outta lemons.) I bought my third (and final!) pair of wedding shoes, and I loved them. We visited friends in Philly and ate a lot. And then ate some more. John threatened my wedding but eventually heeded my call to back the EFF down.

September

I bought my first designer dress, and damn do I love it. Ditto the red shoes. I went into full blown bridezilla beauty mode. I told a story about falling in love. My girlfriends spoiled and showered me. I surpassed my old comment record with a post all about my hatred of Grey’s Anatomy. And I fit into my skinny pants!

October

The wedding planning started making me a little bit crazy. And also obsessed. I ran 6 miles without stopping or dying. You guys decided we should not read a sexual poem at our wedding (by the way, did I ever thank you for backing me up there? No? Well, THANK YOU!) Oh yeah, and we got legally married at the courthouse in Virginia and then celebrated with a Frosty from Wendy’s.

November

Hmmmmm, what could have happened in November that was exciting? Anything? Oh yeah, we had our DREAM WEDDING in Mexico, and it was absolutely 100% perfect and I became depressed when it was over. I was excited to finally wear my bling. And the Democrats took back Congress. The honeymoon wasn’t half bad either. It was a good month. A freaking great month.

December

I got baby fever (and plans for an IUD). I asked Santa for lots of pretty red things. I made homemade Christmas cards (and wrote a gazillion thank you notes). We spent a week snowed in in Denver playing cards, skiing, shoveling, and snowshoeing. I posted photos from my childhood.

*************

All I can think after making this list is what an amazing year I had. I can’t help but feel so incredibly fortunate for everything and everyone good in my life. If you ever find me complaining about anything please slap me over the head and direct me to this post, okay? As E : ) says, Love to all!

  1. That’s one heck of a year. And of course, what better way to start ‘07 than jumping into my suitcase and coming to NZ? :)

  2. Congratulations on the wedding! Me and my hubby got married on 11/11/06 too! It’s awesome! Congrats again!!!

  3. What a year! I think I’m too lazy to do a detailed retrospective and admire yours!

  4. And we had a groomswomen too! And a bridesman, my brother. Sorry, I’ve been reading your wedding details!

  5. Ooh, this fun! But I’m too lazy, too. There are archives, after all. Things that I think make your highlights extra-great:

    - the bonding of your cats
    - your crazy diet
    - your first ever trip to Baltimore! Partay!
    - the all-caps thank you for the cinnamon poem; oh, we’ve got your back
    - the celebration Frosty for legal marriage

    Any predictions for 2007?

  6. Congrats on all the accomplishments of 2006. Here’s hoping 2007 is just as fun!

  7. I knew I was married when I bought a vaccum cleaner that was more expensive than my television. I knew I was even more married when I was more excited about the vaccum than my TV. Dyson rules!

  8. Excellent review! The mention of the eyeball incident made me cringe even thought it was just a mention. Ew.

  9. You have a beautiful life!!! Let’s hope 2007 is just as wonderful. I’ll drink to that.

  10. Oh my gosh, what a great round up. (This must have taken you a long time to put together.)

2006 was a good year. Thanks for reminding me of all the great things you did this year. You rock.

(I will forever be indepted to you for starting my desire for pretty red shoes. Red shoes that I finally bought last week and will blog about soon!)

  11. Highlights of ‘07 will include a trip to the Rubber Capital of the World!

  16. Congrats on an amazing year! Hope 2007 is just as fabulous for you!

  17. Sounds like a good year for you! Mine wasn’t that great, so I didn’t even bother making a summary of 2006… no need to remind myself of that. Happy New Year 2007!

  18. Happy New Year. I’m so glad I discovered your blog this year. Lucky me. May 2007 be even better!

  19. Awesome idea! I can’t wait to see 2007 as it happens. Happy New Year!

  20. […] I kind of already did one of these ‘looking back on the year‘ things, but this one is a bit more related to my blog, kinda like how the lovely Janet did. Meaning, I’m going to be surfing through my archives and reading what I’ve written in the past year. And since I can’t think of anything interesting or decent to write about lately, this is what you get! :) […]

  21. Interesting roundup, especially since I learned some things from before I started reading your website last year. So jealous that you got Lasik… :)
