love and hate thursday
March 8th, 2007 @ 11:49 am | love & hate | Post a Commentlove: It’s a spring baby-fest! Lately my vocabulary has been heavy on words like caeserean, placenta, and colostrum, and no, I am not pregnant. It’s just that all my friends are. One friend had her baby about two weeks ago. I just went to dinner with another friend who is due in a week (we ate spicy Mexican, hoping to speed things up). My best friend from childhood is seven months along. Plus there are a whole bunch of bloggers due soon.
hate: Spicy Hot V8. I really wanted to like it, but it doesn’t taste any better than regular V8 and then it just burns your throat on the way down.
love: Andrew and I are on a new plan to save money where we each get a weekly allowance for all non-essential spending. More money for that house I want to buy someday!
hate: Not being able to spend money kinda blows, let’s be honest. I don’t even open the BIG GIANT SALE GOING ON NOW emails I get because I don’t want to know what’s on sale that I can’t buy.
love: I already bought birthday presents for the next two months for various family members. I had to purchase before my spending limit went into effect but now I’m just glad to be done so early.
hate: that we are still in the “in like a lion” part of March and not yet to the “out like a lamb” part. Anyday now, people!
love: thinking about vacations I want to take to Vermont, Seattle, and Charleston (and perhaps Chicago?) this year.
hate: that I cannot plan any of these trips until we have two incomes again.
love: I’m thinking about taking some kind of art class. Maybe graphic design, or sewing, or painting. Anyone know of someplace cool (and cheap, see above) in the DC area for that?
hate: that I am all caught up on The Office DVDs, which means I can’t keep watching that show every single day. When will the 3rd season be out?
love: getting lots of comments! leave your loves and hates below

love: my new pink bag to carry my lunch in (to help save the cash)
hate: wearing tights and pants and socks and sweaters. I’m so over winter.
love: the new cycles of America’s Next Top Model and Australia’s Next Top Model.
hate: seeing Battlestar Galactica and ESPN Classic saved on the DVR (by my husband)

Hi Janet,
I love that your posts are always so friendly and nice and kind. You know? Even if you are having a bad day, your sweet personality really comes across in the words you use. It’s so refreshing compared to some negative bloggers I’ve seen. So, thanks for the smiles and such. I am with you on “not being able to spend money blows”. This trend has been going on now for quite some time with me. I keep hoping it will end.

You should totally go to Chicago. I was there this past weekend and want to go back SOOOOON. I’d love to go to BlogHer but not only will I be traveling for work that week in a place FAR less cool than Chicago, I kinda suck on the blogging front.
Anyway, my love and hates for Thursday:
Love - That I will be traveling every single week until the end of April.
Hate - That I will be traveling every single week until the end of April.
Love - That two trips to DC will allow me to catch up with friends from college, though they are work related.
Love - That it was finally confirmed to me via Page Six (a few weeks late) that Holly and Kendra really hate each other.
Love - That I’m taking a girls trip to Florida.
Hate - That chocolate is not a vegetable.
Love - Bam’s Unholy Union
Hate - When people bring their toddler children on three hour long plane rides without a book or a toy and then yell at them for not behaving.

Love: birthday week wishes!
Hate: that it has to end at some point
Love: a fistful of gift cards from said birthday which means a guilt-free shopping spree in the future!
P.S. JG and I each have a monthly “allowance,” for lack of a better word, and the system works out great. I always spend mine each month on small things (engagement cards, a new scarf, a basket for the house) and he saves up for whatever new toy is on the horizon. Good luck with the budget!

Chicago OR Seattle? Oh my gosh, does that mean I have a 50/50 chance of meeting you this year??
Because that is what I LOVE!
I can’t wait for spring. And summer.
Have you seen the BBC Office? Or “Freaks and Geeks”? You might want to look into those shows. Just a suggestion…

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop has cool art classes, as does the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria. One of my colleages takes artistic welding at the torp. How cool is that!
Also, check out Project RAP at the smithsonian. they do photography classes and some other kinds of visual art. not exactly cheap, though.

love: art classes
hate: expensive ones
Um, so, I know of a few places that have art classes in the DC area–google them:
Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA–Just 5 short miles from DC! I’ve taken a good ptg. class here because their reputation is as one of the best art centers in the country.
Arlington Art Center has a wide variety of art classes–i’ve gone to art receptions there and nice facility right by metro stop (near george mason i think).
Corcoran College of Art & Design in DC. but i bet this is expensive for just a fun class. i’ve just heard good things.
my friend is taking a sewing class somewhere in NW…loves it. i’ll ask her and get back to you.

I’m on a budget too - gah! How much does that suck?!
love: college basketball - especially when our local team wins the conference!
hate: too much celebrating . . . the next morning.
love: cats snuggled up on my lap
hate: cats snuggled up on my lap with half of their bodies draped over my laptop, and when I try to gently nudge them off, they freak out, jump up, and run away, causing little kitty hairs to settle in my nose and on my keyboard. ew.

V8 is the devil. There is nothing to love about drinking vegetables. It makes me want to hurt myself.
