chronicles of a lazy hermit

Will you still be my friend if I tell you that I didn’t leave the house One. Single. Time. this weekend until Sunday night, when my ass actually started to meld into my couch and I figured the least I could do was pay someone else to cook for me? And even then all I did was walk to the neighborhood organic Chinese place to pick up dinner and get ready for a full night of - you guessed it - sitting on my favorite spot on the couch.

Yes, this is the glamourous life of a young, newlywed urban-dweller. Aren’t you just positively jealous?

Actually, on Friday night we went over to see some jazz at the Smithsonian, which was a bit crowded but otherwise fun and different from our usual dinner and a movie. Although the Friday night cheap jazz program is sadly slated to end in June due to budget shortfalls, I’m not too surprised since they forgot to collect our $20 admission. However, we paid more than $65 for a tasty but hardly gourmet dinner and three drinks so I can’t figure out how they are losing that much money.

Saturday was a total lazy blur of sleep, television, napping, reading, eating, more napping, movies, and footrubs. And watching Arrested Development on this new channel G4 that I had never heard of but holy hell where have you been all my life you awesome channel that plays Arrested Development almost non-stop!

Today we actually cleaned the house so at least I have something to show for my pathetic weekend. And we spent lots of quality time together, which I hope somehow makes the nothingness okay. We’re newlyweds, we’re allowed to!

A few even more banal points than the above:

  1. I have been getting gobs and gobs of spam comments lately, and sometimes my filter will catch a legit comment or two. Just email me if your comment won’t show up for some reason, as it’s probably caught with all the v1@gr@ crap in there. Sorry about that.
  2. I’m volunteering at Taste of the Nation tomorrow night (free admission and a good cause!) so if you go too then look for the blonde girl in the “brightly colored volunteer t-shirt” they promised to give me. And please bring me some samples, especially if I really look really pathetically hungry, okay? Thanks!

  1. That’s so cool that you’re volunteering tomorrow night. I heard about it–but, of course, I’ll be working. Blah! Late schedules really suck sometimes.

  2. I KNEW I’d commented and it hadn’t shown up! Don’t feel bad for ‘hermiting’ a little - you’re taking time to enjoy each other in a special way, and this is good.

  3. I wish I could have been a hermit this weekend! But the Master’s and Easter interrupted my lazy-boy time! Maybe next weekend.

  4. Volunteering- I am so proud! Happy Easther.

  5. Oh Man.
I just found that G4 Channel also.
I watch Arrested for like 2 and a half hours yesterday.

    WOOHOO!

  6. Maybe it sounds awful, but being a hermit is a very affordable way to get by for some weekends. If I had a channel that played What Not to Wear, Friends, and Gilmore Girls in a rotating loop, I’d be hard-pressed to extract myself from our couch. But alas, the pick-your-own marathon channel doesn’t exist… yet…

  7. I love G4, too… but I love that they play Old School Star Trek on Saturdays!!

Oh, I am such a dorkity dork dork.

  8. We used to have the most basic cable package - just the network channels - but for some reason we also got G4 and the Style network. It used to be news about video games ALL THE TIME. And H would watch it. OMG. But if they are showing Arrested Development, I may have to give it a chance so that I can get my George Michael fix.

  9. Meldy butt is always a hassle and sometime deadly.

  10. Sounds a lot like my weekend. I woke up on Sunday and thought, you know what? I think I am not going to step one foot outside this house today. Just because.

And g4? The same G4 that plays all those godawful Star Trek reruns that Joel likes to watch? It’s right up there with the SciFi channel on my “TV programming that I wish did not exist” list, but maybe I will have to revisit that if they’re picking up a decent show (after all, SciFi only moved down on the list when the picked up Heroes reruns).

  11. Mmm…. sounds like heaven! I was running around like a crazy person all weekend and really just wanted to be curled up on the couch! Sigh, I have couch-envy. :o)

    xox

  12. Taste of the Nation sounds so amazing! Have a great time!!

And yes, newlyweds are totally allowed to stay home all weekend together.

  13. I think it’s A-Okay to spend a whole weekend at home. Especially since you were productive and cleaned. But even if you had spent the whole weekend on the couch, I’d still be your friend. A girl deserves a lazy weekend once in awhile — especially if it’s spent with her husband!

  14. Hey, that sounds like a perfect weekend! Is it bad that I did the exact same thing, just substitute Arrested Development for “Buffy”, which I shamelessly bought for myself a couple weeks ago? ;)
Have fun volunteering and crap! You mentioned food and now I’m hungry.
