palmettos and tarheels
May 8th, 2007 @ 9:51 pm | family, love | Post a CommentI love my husband for many more reasons than I could ever count on this blog, but I would totally be lying if I said this wasn’t one of them: His parents own a vacation home in Charleston, South Carolina. And we have an open invitation to stay there. And it’s on the beach. (Did I mention that I married into a fab family, cause I totally did.)
Know what that means? Oh yeah, I’m going on vacation!
In 18 days I am getting in a car and going to the Carolinas, both South and North. To the beaches of the Carolinas to be more precise. My plan is to relax, worship the sun, eat a lot, and spend quality time with the husband, the family, and girlfriends.
(Oh, just to make you triple-jealous, did you all know that my college roomie is now my sister-in-law, which means that “family vacation” automatically also means “friend vacation”? Plus sister-in-law and I are going to see another college roomie, and I’m just hoping we don’t get so silly and drunk that we pass out in the bushes like we may have in college once or twice.)
(Yes, she is also the one who kills roaches. Have I confused any of you yet?)
Anyway, back to the story. You see, I was having a particularly crabby day today (I think when Andrew said maybe he should just drive a garbage truck we reached a low point) and I decided I needed to get into Type A Planning mode and do something about it. So I got online and did a little mapquesting and airfare-hunting and got on the phone and did a little schedule-consulting and now Voila! Instead of being Ms. Crabby McWhineypants for the rest of the week I am just going to float around my office telling people that I’m going to the beach in less than three weeks, sucka!
Now I just need to get my life together and get myself to visit my own family on the other coast. And then book tickets for all the weddings we are going to this summer. And think about possible anniversary plans and holiday plans. It’s all a bit overwhelming, really. So instead I’m just going to focus on where I’ll be three weeks from now…do you think they make good margaritas down there?
It’s fine, I’ll settle for a spiked sweet tea.
PS Have any of you done a My Hometown for Charleston yet? Lemme know!

Ooh. I really want to go to Charleston too. I had friends who got married there (Citadel graduate), but of course I didn’t go to the wedding being in Australia at the time and all. So beautiful. Sigh.

Nice! It’s still so weird that you’re all heading into your summer when it’s getting colder here…..

Well….I guess I’ll stop complaining about it being hot here - at least I could *technically* go to the beach if I had any time. When were you barfing?
Did the My Hometown on the other Janets’ blog for Santa Barbara.

You lucky lady. Charleston is by far my favorite southern city. I’d move there in a heartbeat.

I am so excited for our vacation!! I am counting down the days (T-minus 17 days) until we are relaxing on the beach. Thanks for doing all the planning. You are the bestest sister-in-law ever!

You definitely worked the system by marrying your friend’s brother… but does that preclude certain conversations? I know that some of the things I tell my friends… well, let’s just say they probably wouldn’t want to know that much about their brother.
That’s pretty much the only bad thing I can imagine about having your BFF double as your SIL!

Yay for vacation! I’ll have to enjoy it vicariously since JG’s grad classes pretty much eliminate any chance of an extended break over the summer. Sigh.

You really lucked out with the whole marrying-your-friends-brother thing. A quick scan of my friends’ brothers yields no suitable candidates, so I’ll have to stick with AS and continue befriending his sister and sisters-in-law.
Happy vacation!!

I’m sorry, but that comment really had me laughing, I’m not sure why. But I can imagine the stress you must be under with him job hunting and all. Time to escape! I sure know that one myself. Going to Florida in June, woohoo! (Except I already have pre vacation remorse over the amount of money we’ll be losing out on for each day that Hub-E is off of work… yikes.)

Oooh! I’ve heard of Carolina beachy towns/vacations - but had never considered it; mostly because California & Mexico are so much closer I guess.
Hope you have a blast!

Have a great vacation!
FYI: I totally appreciated your My DC post. I’ll be visiting a frind (she actually lives in Alexandria) in June. It will be the first time I’ve been there in 2 1/2 years. So, fresh ideas of places to go. Awesome.

You totally need to wake up in some bushes so I can live vicariously! By the way, as a faithful reader of your blog, I was not confused by sister-in-law talk, although I did not realize that she was your friend in college. How cool is that?! I love that! I’m also totally jealous that you are going to Charleston…I’ve always wanted to go there. Will you be driving through Richmond on your way there??!!

[...] I realize these are ridiculous thoughts. I have so much to be thankful for in life. I have health, happiness, a great family, great friends, TiVo, random non-creepy people on the internet who tell me I’m pretty, and I’m going on a vacation in two weeks! My husband tells me I’m pretty every day. My mom thinks I’m the funniest person on the planet. My boss values my opinion. I need to just stop already with the whining! [...]
