no news (yet)

Hi! Perhaps you are here hoping to see that I have posted some good news or something? Some long awaited, fabulous, earth shattering, future-shaping, life-altering news? Well, none today, kiddos. Check back in tomorrow though? Pretty please?

In the meantime, please go wish Amie a happy birthday.

And do me another favor: In the comments, tell me your dream job. Not like “high-end shoe model/martini taste tester” but like your real-life dream job. Do you actually have your dream job? Does a dream job even really exist anyway? How do we get there in life? Discuss.

Oh, and one last thing? (Damn, I am demanding today!) Who is coming to happy hour with me tomorrow? As of right now I am going ALONE. Please, someone pity the poor girl and come with me?!?!

  1. AHHH!!! Please keep us posted. I’m dying here.

Dream job? I don’t have it. But I would think being a high school teacher would be awesome. My dad is one and I think he has the best job ever.

Have fun at the happy hour.

  2. If I was going to be in DC instead of Philly this weekend, I would totally go to happy hour!

I’m not sure if I know what my dream job would be. As of right now, it would have something to do with helping organizations (non- and for-profit) do strategic planning. I love the broad strokes!

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news soon!!

  3. As with everyone else who is not in DC, if I was in DC, I’d be there in no time. The words “happy” and “hour” should always be side-by-side.

As for my dream job, I’d say it would be doing a number of jobs at the same time. I’d like to be an author of existential fiction novels, have a weekly column in a magazine, possibly Time or Maclean’s, and maybe every couple years, open a new business venture, like a nightclub or a café. I’m working on my Honours in English now, followed by an MFA in Professional Writing, so I guess I’m on my way there. Maybe?

  4. My dream job would be a head librarian in a big public library in a major city (and the library would be well-funded and gorgeous, of course. . .no use working in an ugly library).

  5. FOOD WRITER!!

  6. Oooh, I vote super-famous author; like J.K. Rowling famous… that’s not so hard, right? I’m good at media-related jobs (advertising, marketing, etc) but I think I’d really enjoy owning a small bakery or eatery… nothing big and fancy, just me and my cooking… which of course would somehow morph from scary to fabulous. And somehow that small eatery would need to fund a semi-serious footwear addiction problem.

  7. Dream job? Event planning. I can plan anything like nobody’s business.

Keep us posted on the news. Walking around for a week with my fingers crossed for you guys is KILLING ME.
    :)

  8. I’m in sales which is always entertaining but I love event planning both on the small side and large corporate event planning.

And of course if I could be paid to do something in the dive industry that would always be a plus :)
I think doing exotic high end travel planning would be awesome too.

Hope everything turns out for the best for you and the hubby.

  9. My dream job would be something in the travel industry…actually, probably a travel agent. I love to travel and am very passionate about it…so it would be fun to be surrounded by the travel atmosphere everyday. Not sure that it would go very far with paying the bills, but I’d enjoy it.

Or maybe a travel writer…that would be pretty cool…yeah, I’ll go with travel writer for my dream job.

Good luck with Andrew’s job!! I’ve been checking here 100 times a day to see any news!

  10. 1) My dream job I actually have so the only way it could get better is if I worked at the internation organization or if Harper Collins called. Or Simon & Schuster. I’m not picky.

    2) I’ll be at Happy Hour tomorrow. You won’t be able to miss me. I’ll be the drunk one talking like there’s no tomorrow. See you then!

  11. Go ANDREW! GO ANDREW!

He’s bound to get it, there are way too many people rooting for him. Dream job? Y’all are going to hate me for this, but I’m going to go ahead and say….Mine! I LOVE my job, even though it drives me nuts sometimes! Planning weddings is about 80% joyful.

I’d go to Happy Hour in a red second if I didn’t live in CA.

  12. Crossing fingers for Andrew! Sorry that I can’t come to HH because - whoa - I know I will so need a drink after work tomorrow.

Dream job - As nerdy as it is, I’d love to write software documentation, design user manuals, or edit websites, especially if they’re about food or entertainment. Someone hire me, please! Did I mention that I could use a drink?

  13. Morning Show DJ on a cool radio station in Denver. Can you hook me up?

  14. I admire all of you that like event planning- I’m not loving it and I LOVE planning-vacations, lists for every event etc.

I think my dream job would be being a college counselor and working part time.

  15. I’d love to go to a happy hour, damn do I need one with the stresses at work lately!

My dream job.. would be to still work with kids, but just either a) counselling them or b) compiling kids stories or c) being an author. With kids.

Must have kids somewhere, for all their germs, I do love the littlies. :)

  16. Museum curator at a world class museum. Or a ballerina.

Fingers still crossed here for you!

  17. I would probably own a little boutique or a bed and breakfast. I also really like event planning, so maybe I would do that full time. Event planning is obviously part of my job now, but I always kind of wonder what it would be like to do all of the time.

  18. My dream job was to own a boutique….now it’s kinda turning into being a mom full-time. Not that THAT’S on the horizon anytime soon! And even once it is, I’ll probably have some other dream job I’m going for.

So are the days of my life.

  19. I really hope you get some excellent news soon!

I’d come to the happy hour if it weren’t for DC traffic. I’d probably get there by midnight. Why can’t they extend the metro to Baltimore?

As for dream job, I wish I knew. I feel like a dream job is sort of like aliens… I believe that they exist, but I’m not counting on finding proof! I do think I’d like to be some sort of columnist (um, sort of like a blog? But get paid big bucks to do it?) I also think being a psychologist or a vet would be fun. I am in total awe of all these event planners — I hate the stress leading up to a big event.

  20. I think my dream job would be not having to work for a living, just doing something becuase it’s fun. The minute that a job is a HAVE TO, I think I lose a lot of interest in it.
Having said that, my list in no particular order is; musuem curator, a buyer for an auction house like Sothebys or Christies, and of course I’d love to own a real bakery.

But in all reality, I’d love to not work. God I’m lazy.

  21. I’d love to be a professional traveler - is there such a thing?

If that doesn’t exist, than I am not sure I have a dream job. I have worried about that my entire life - most people have an answered when asked what they want to be when they grow up. Mine has always been “I don’t know.” On the flip side, there are lots of things I enjoy doing, so I make the most of the job I have.

  22. My dream job is owning a successful freelance editing and proofreading business that allows me to spend my days on the couch/treadmill/deck/wherever with a manuscript and a red pen. I don’t have that job yet, but I’m working on it.

I will definitely be checking back for news!

  23. my dream job would be freelance writing and writing for magazines. maybe someday soon…

i can’t wait to hear about your news! keep us posted!

  24. My dream job is to be the President of a top tier University.

Not so out of reach, right?

Have fun at Happy Hour… I can’t wait until I am a DC blogger!!

  25. I feel like I’m in my dream field of work and love my job as a designer, but what would make it better would be for some different clients to work on. But I can’t even really complain about that as I’m on a fairly new team whose sole purpose is to go after new cool stuff, so it should be flowing in rather soon (fingers crossed). I guess maybe I’d like someday to just do my own side things, like start a wrapping paper/stationery line, and just work from my own studio and not have to go to the office everyday. I think eventually I’ll get to that point, but I definitely don’t mind spending the meantime right where I’m at.

  26. I keep thinking that I’m going to see a positive pregnancy test here… someday, I suppose. I just have babies on the brain.
But still keeping fingers/toes/etc. crossed for Dream Job and even Dreamier Salary and the subsequent Dreamiest of Dreamiest Next Steps for you both.

When I was a young girl, I wanted to be a professional gift wrapper–which is hysterical if you’ve ever received a gift from me. I’m all about the gift bag because I Don’t Do Corners with Wrapping Papers.

My dream job? I have it. I’m Henry’s mom.

  27. Pleasure meeting you at the HH this night! See, you do have some male readers…..

  28. Photojournalist for National Geographic. I’d get to have meaningful and incredible travel experiences and everyone would admire my photography skills (those are part of the dream, too).

  29. I really wanted to be a sports contract lawyer. 10% of any of A-Rod’s contracts would have set me up for life. I really would like to do this. I’ve also wanted to be independantly wealthy and just do charitable stuff all the time.

    ~Jef

  30. I don’t know if this counts because it’s more of a wish and wouldn’t be an actual job, but I would love to start a no-kill animal shelter, but not a “shelter” because that sounds so awful. It would be more of an animal farm where they can run around and play and be loved until someone takes them home to love them on their own.

    If that doesn’t count, photographer.

  31. My dream job would be to travel to MLB games and compile the stats.

  32. [...] Andrew got a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And not just any job, but his potential DREAM JOB! [...]
