blog ADD

I’m opening up this post with not much to say, except hey! Have you been watching the new season of Dr. 90210? It’s totally the season of Dr. Rey trying to buy his children’s love through the purchase of lots and lots of expensive toys. Have I ever mentioned how much I love this terrible show?

Oh, and we aren’t buying that house anymore. To make a long story short, there is this skinny little rectangular house on this skinny little lot that we assumed was also rectangular. But it’s more like a rectangle with a bite out of it, and the bite actually belongs to the neighbor’s lot. Imagine that! So there is a little dispute that has to get resolved before we would even think of buying it. I’m just hoping they don’t literally take a bite out of the kitchen and give it to the neighbor to solve the problem. Then I would totally not be able to make cookies to feed the homeless men who live on the corner.

(Kidding. Sort of. This is DC after all!)

We are going to New Jersey for a wedding this weekend! Because nothing says eternal love like the beaches of Jersey. Actually, we dearly love the couple getting married and I’m really excited to attend their ceremony. There’s something about going to a wedding after you’ve gotten married yourself that makes it seem so much more special, somehow. Or maybe I’m weird to think that. And also a little excited to finally be able to drive the new car on the highway!

Back to the TV thing for a moment. I’m watching Engaged & Underage and this girl is getting married and going to her high school prom all at the same time?!? That is just wrong.

Back to the wedding thing. I had a thought today. If Andrew and I had gotten pregnant on our honeymoon, we would be having a baby like right now. Can I just say thank god for birth control? I can barely take care of my cats lately. I suspect they get better care from their catsitter, actually. Although sometimes I wish I had kids so I could force teach them to do my laundry.

I have some questions for you, if you are so inclined to answer:

1. Let’s say I have this weird desire to learn a martial art. Which one should I choose and how should I go about picking a place to learn?

2. Should I play fantasy football this year or am I already overbooked on life?

3. What does my sister-in-law want for her birthday that is in ONE POINT FIVE days?

comments

  1. You will find the perfect house. Just you wait.

And my grandma dyed her wedding dress pink so that she could wear it to her high school graduation. That freaked my shiz out when I heard that story!

  2. You should take up Silat. It’s a violent Indonesian martial art that teaches you useful skills like quickly gouging out eyes and kneeing attackers in the balls. It is not polite, nor honourable, but hell it’s practical. I loved it.

I have no idea where you’d learn it in DC, but Google “Silat Perisai Diri DC” and you might come up with something. Awesome.

  3. 1. Obviously, I know ALL about martial arts, due to my Asian-ness. Or not. I know nothing, Grasshopper. What about a self-defense course?

    2. I say go for the fantasy football! Give your team an ironically girly name, spend minimal time on selection, and watch them ride to the championship, right?

    3. For a last-minute gift, I propose a mani/pedi (with you, of course), an IOU on something crafty, and/or fun pictures of you all.

Have fun in NJ! Have some saltwater taffy!

  4. Ok, so I don’t know you that well since I’ve only been reading for like a week (love it though), but….I’m gonna do my best to answer your questions.

    1) You should call around to different places and ask who has kick boxing. It’s really fun and a great workout and you don’t feel stupid having to yell all karate kid like.

    2) My experience with fantasy football is that I was all excited to pick my team name and….that’s where the excitment ended. My husband ended up doing my draft and keeping up with it the whole season cause I just didn’t feel like putting in the effort. Just sayin….

    3) You should get her…..an herb garden set! I have no idea what made me think of that, but there you have it….my suggestion.

  5. This weekend is one of 3 weekends this summer that I don’t have a wedding.
But I am flying to NYC to attend my cousin’s wedding shower.

    How WRONG IS THAT!!!??

    BOO!
Have fun at the wedding and for the drive.

1- I would take jujistu (sic) because I like the way it sounds when you say it.

2- I love Fantasy Football. If you think about it it’s only really one day a week. I have my team ready by Thursday and then give it one more look Sun Morning. (if I am not hungover).

    3- Coach. Anything coach.

  6. 1. H loves loves loves jiu jitsu. My sister-in-law does karate. Most places will let you try a class free to see if you like it.

    2. FF seems like a lot of work to me.

    3. Stationery? Book store gift cert? How old is your sister-in-law?

  7. AS and I almost went to New Jersey this weekend to hang by his brother’s pool! But, we’re going to Long Island instead.

I know a lot of people who have started taking capoeira lately. I am intrigued. If you lived here, I would totally try it out with you.

  8. Currently I am six belts (out of ten) and almost half way to black belt in Kempo Karate. Not to seem clichéd but it has changed my life. Not only did I lose weight, but I know feel comfortable about kicking anyone’s ass who tries to cause harm. Knowing I can defend myself is exhilarating not to mention the workout is spectacular. Joining the dojo was one of the best things I ever did. I love it so much!! I HIGHLY recommend it. It will change your life.

To find a dojo with kempo karate, just look in the yellow pages or online for martial arts studios in your area. It is really important to talk to someone in the program and try to see if you can get at least a 2 week free trial period that way you can participate in the classes without having to lose anything. You get a feel for the Senseis and the group of people who will become your friends. Then you can decide which place suits you best!

  9. oops *now

  10. Yes, play fantasy football so I have another girl I can talk trades with!

  11. No knowledge of 1 or 2…for 3 I would say Spa gift cert for a really nice place near her. Then she can use for whatever suits her. Without any info it’s hard to get personal…

  12. 1 does fighting for the last pair of cute shoes count as “martial arts?” Because I totally vote for that one.

    2 …..

3 gift certificate at a spa or salon, pretty stationary or a label maker. what? those things are awesome!

  13. 1. I have no advice except to please, whatever you do, do not start saying “karate” like Ross did in that one episode of Friends.
    2. Does it involve cocktails? If so, then yes.
    3. She wants a hug.

    Have fun in Jersey!

  14. 1. I took karate many years ago for a few months. It was cool. Capoeira looks so hard, but could be cool. I still say stick with karate.

    2. Yeah why not.

    3. A gift certificate to somewhere she likes. Something pretty for her home?

  15. Yargh, finally your blog loaded. I tried last night when it updated in blog lines, but I think it hates me.

Yay for weddings and crappy TV shows! I am still a lover of Bridezillas & Whose Wedding Is It Anyway.

I’d love to do kickboxing.. I know it’s not exactly martial arts, but it looks like a fun workout. And you get to kick! Yeah!

Have a great weekend away. And how bout gift certificates? Don’t think you can go wrong there.

  16. I did this really neat class for a long time that was cardio kickboxing. I’m not sure it would qualify as a martial art (you know the background music and all) but it was fun and I feel I could kick a little ass!
And, I met someone last night - she just turned 30, has been married 13 years and has 5 kids. I’m only 29 with one and married 6 years. And people say I’m moving wayyyy too quickly. (I kind of agree).
As for the gift - what about a small silver necklace with a funky charm. That’s kind of my stand by gift when I like the person but have no clue what to get.
And, finally, I have no idea what fantasy football is. But it sounds fantastic (ha ha ha)

  17. Hmm… I don’t have any advice for the questions you asked!

BUT I love Engaged and Underage. I TIVO every episode. Shh… don’t tell anyone!

Have fun driving the new car this weekend… love Mazda 3’s!

  18. Alli wants sushi, head massages and mexican fiestas!

  19. I took kickboxing at the gym I belonged to in SoFL. Loved, loved, loved it.
Also,I too am strangely addicted to bad tv: Girls Next Door, Engaged and Underage, Whose Wedding is it Anyway, and I used to watch Dr. 90210, but have been missing it lately.
And I haven’t played fantasy football, but have done picks for football and basketball and taken the boys’ money.
I agree with the spa day idea for a present.

  20. When fantasy football is the question, “Yes!” is always the answer. ; )

  21. You should try Capoeira. I’m not sure if it’s exactly a martial art, but it’s all neat and Brazilian and they fly all over the place when they do it. I mean, with their bodies, not in planes.

    No fantasy football.

She wants flowers, definitely a mexican fiests, because who wouldn’t want that, and lipstick. And pancakes.

  22. fiest-A, I mean. That was a typo.

  23. I just read your blog today and I have to say I was really amused, you are a great writer/blogger.

And I’ve seen Engaged and Underage too, it’s a pretty insane show.

And I say Yes to fantasy football (granted I’ve never done it before), but it looks like fun.
    :)

  24. Oh my goodness goodness. I had something to say but it all went out the window when I read the part about fantasy football. YES - you play!

  25. […] Janet at Love is Blonde wrote a pithy comment last week that resonated with me when she asked whether she should avoid fantasy football this season: “…am I already overbooked on life?” […]
