an ode to my hubby on our 10 month anniversary

Forget Britney and her alleged “comeback,” here at Blonde HQ, the musical topic of the day is one near and dear to my husband’s heart: Weird Al. Yep, that weird guy with the weird songs. (I think it’s safe to say his name is very fitting.)

Last year, Weird Al came out with a song called “White & Nerdy,” a parody of Chamillionaire’s song, “Ridin’.” (If you haven’t heard it, stop right now and go watch the video. The rest of this post will make so much more sense, I promise.) Anyway, Andrew immediately deemed this song his own personal theme song and sent out a mass email to his friends declaring as much. No one disputed it.

The challenge: Is there anyone on Earth reading this blog who is, or is coupled with, someone whiter and nerdier than my husband?

Rules: Count one point for each thing that describes you (or your significant other) as per Al’s lyrical definition of white and nerdy. Partial credit is allowed if there is some gray area. Tally up the score at the end. Anyone who can beat Andrew’s score get a special white and nerdy gift in the mail from yours truly. (Oh, and I abridged the lyrics just to get rid of all the choruses and whatnot, mmmkay?)

Andrew’s White and Nerdy Score: 14.5

Can you beat it? Oh, and I love you, honey!

comments

  1. Jase is pretty white and nerdy …

But I think I’ve got him beat! ;)
    Happy 10 months!

  2. FYI - those reading in the feed may see a score of 13.5 but I edited it later to be 14.5 — oopsie! now I look like a cheater at my own game.

  3. I haven’t done a total tally, but I think my boy has a few points up his sleeve… LOL!

  4. Oh, Janet, my twin. AS is also white and nerdy, but in different, less academic ways than Andrew. For example, he doesn’t know from calculus, but he does happen to have a business doing (in part) websites. And he was president of the AV Club. He went to SUMMER CAMP for the AV Club. One of his fondest high school memories is coming in on Saturdays to WIRE THE SCHOOL FOR CABLE.

  5. Oh, it’s on. JG is psyched about calculating his nerd index.

And Laurel - AV Camp? For real? That’s even a notch nerdier than band camp, where I went for two summers. I stand in awe.

I think these nerdy husbands/boyfriends need to hang out while we girls do something, uh, shopping-like.

  6. That song is hilarious. One of our local radio stations did a spin off of Chamillionaire’s song, too. It’s a popular one :)

  7. Um, going by that my husband has a score of 18. But seriously, he’s really cute.

    SIGH.

  8. um…. 17 points… scary. When I was using match I mentioned nerdy/geeky one the second line of my profile….

  9. Damn, I was SO hoping for a white and nerdy gift! But Tim and I only scored 6.5 and 5 respectively. I guess we’re more dorky than nerdy.

  10. Oh man.

    I scored a 10.5.

I gave myself half a point for working at the GAP.

And what’s wrong with writing your senior thesis on Pascal…..

I should get 2 points for that.
    It took FOREVER!

  11. Oh I scored Ian as a 5. Although he was not in AV/glee/chess clubs, he was in a Robotics club which I thought merited a definite point :) He “says” it was for the free trip to the Florida conference each year in Orlando, but I have my suspicions!

  12. I really expected Ted to score higher, but he only got a 5. Of course, he’s a poet, so his nerdiness revolves more around being excited to look words up in the dictionary. He could have gotten points for having more than 10 dictionaries…but it just wasn’t meant to be!

    Cute post!

  13. Edgar would not beat Andrew’s score…and he’s totally hispanic so does that even count? I guess it does. To me, white is more than a color…it is a state of mind. I answered my own question.

Edgar is the biggest computer nerd…so if this were more computer focused, he would totally win. He has his own LLC and creates websites for companies. His day job is working for a company that also does that. He plays World of Warcraft in his spare time.

I love that Al Y. song, btw!

  14. Wow. I don’t know what to say…other than that we are remarkably less white and nerdy than I thought. Between the both of us, we only scored a 2.5. Yet I always think of myself as a huge nerd. Huh.

  15. Happy 10 month! Joel scored surprisingly low on the white n’ nerdy scale. But really anyone who had a tee-shirt made that says “I heart Daphnia” is a complete nerd. Science major, what can I say?

Daphnia: Daphnia are small, mostly planktonic, crustaceans, between 0.2 and 5 mm in length. Daphnia are members of the order Cladocera, and are one of the several small aquatic crustaceans commonly called water fleas because of their saltatory swimming style (although fleas are insects and thus only very distantly related). They live in various aquatic environments ranging from acidic swamps to freshwater lakes, ponds, streams and rivers.

    Ha!

  16. This cracked me up..seriously..I like both versions….

  17. Weird Al! is playing at our city fair this month. Rad.

    Also: Happy! TenMonth-Oversary. : )

  18. I remember the first time I heard that song, I literally laughed out loud. I LOVE it. My husband was a Game Master at an online gaming company for a short while if that tell you anything….

  19. My husband isn’t white but Chinese, which if based off of stereotypes, should give him extra points. And he does wear glasses. And has been known to get excited when his SQL Server magazine comes in the mail. What is SQL Server? you may ask. Perhaps your husband knows if he is a computer nerd.

  20. We would listen to that song on every robotics bus trip we took. So funny.

(And, yes, Tanya L, I think the robotics club merits a point.)

  21. 11.5 here — that .5 was from not owning a soldering gun at the moment, but planning to purchase one in the near future. Which yes, is very random. I almost think that should count as a full point.
