elephants and pumpkins, sort of
September 30th, 2007 @ 9:58 pm | dc, food | Post a CommentWe’re settling in to the new house well, I think. Well enough that at this very moment all four of us (meaning me, the husband, and the kitties) are taking a break from unpacking and cleaning to laze on the couch together and enjoy the newly connected internet and the television the size of a baby elephant.
Speaking of zoo animals, more specifically humans with less civilized behavior than that of a zoo animal: A few nights ago husband and I were walking down the street (a BIG street too, like the street that the White House is on, but on the other side of town) and this man walking about 10 feet in front of us whips out his dong and starts peeing on the sidewalk while he is walking. It seriously took me a few seconds to realize what was going on because Really?! People do that kind of thing?!? This wasn’t just like a little tinkle sprinkle on the lawn either. It was like this guy had just come from a marathon kegstand contest or something. Ewwwwwwww. Ew.
The worst part about it is that (I realized a few minutes later) we were headed to the same place (a restaurant) about half a block away, and during our meal I could see this animal man out of the corner of my eye. It honestly takes a lot to gross me out (hello homeless man pooping on the side of a building downtown) but this was really, really disgusting.
City life — gotta love it! Just wash your hands A LOT, okay? Moving on…
Hmmmmmmm, could it be that I have no other good stories to tell you? I’m kind of sick of talking about the house, and mostly I’m just wondering why I fretted so much over paint colors when I haven’t even had two seconds to go to the paint store to buy paint, let alone actually put it on the walls. I’ll be lucky if this place is painted by 2008. Crap, I’ll be lucky if we’ve finished unpacking by 2008.
I’m trying to get into the spirit of the season and consume as much pumpkin product as possible. (I could live solely on orange foods for the rest of my life, I swear.) I’m thinking of making these healthy chocolate chip pumpkin muffins this week. Anyone have any good pumpkin recipes to share?
Unless, of course, I’ve ruined your appetite already.

Geez public nudity! Did he have a date for dinner? I hope not! And if he did, you should have come up and told her what her “friend” did on the way to meet her!
I say, unpack first, worry about painting later. You don’t want to be two years down the road and still have boxes to unpack!

Peeing on the side of the road is terrible, but what I hate is being in a bathroom washing my hands, and seeing people walk right out of the stalls, past the sinks and then through the door that I’m about to have to touch WITHOUT WASHING THEIR HANDS.
Gross.

It is always amazing when people can just let it out, literally. A few weeks ago after a concert, my friend and I grabbed McDonalds drive through. We were waiting for our food and looked to the side and RIGHT NEXT TO THE CAR, there was a guy peeing in the bushes. What the? Of all places, you KNOW a Maccas has a public toilet to use!

My favorite part of that post is where you’re a homeowner and realizing that the home improvement jobs you WANT to do pale in comparison to the amount of time you’d have to somehow come up with to actually accomplish them.
Yay! Homeownership! I still LOVE that one Martha Stewart blue color. I think it had something to do with a map? Sooo nice.

Oh how I love gourd season! My love for gourds is so well known that my coworker brought me one from a farm in Connecticut this morning!
Rachael Ray had a pumpkin ravioli recipe in her latest magazine that I’m anxious to try. If it’s a success, I’ll let you know!

Well, being domestically challenged, I have no brilliant bits of pumpkin-goodness, but I do have a cooking class this week - so hopefully that will yield some kind of yummy fall baking inspiration.

That is so distgusting.
In MA if you’re caught peeing in public you get registered as a sex offender! So there a-holes.
I love pumpkin everything.
So send some stuff my way!

Wayyyy back when I had Cable TV, I was watching the Food Network and saw Rachel Ray cook up this awesome pumpkin soup. I got the recipe off the Internet and have made it several times. It’s perfect for Fall and Winter cold nights. Here’s the link:

I absolutely love this soup. It makes a huge pot, too! I like to sprinkle just a bit of shredded cheese over the top, like Mozzarella. It gets all melty and gooey. Mmmmm!

So I’m sitting at my desk at work (I mean at home…not on company time) reading your blog, leaning on my hand, chewing on my pinky nail. Then you made the washing hands comment and my hand immediately came shooting out of my mouth, I wiped in on my pants and I now I feel all gross. I have to go wash them and brush my teeth. I hope no one in my office peed on their way in from their car.

I keep scrolling down to look at the yummy food in your previous blog…sad that I haven’t lost my appetite after this blog. (I’m from DC)
I don’t have any pumpkin recipes, we never celebrated halloween growing up ( you know the whole day of the devil or what not) but I’m looking forward to trying some this year. My kid is too old for trick or treating so I must make up for all that free candy we can’t get.
