last bite
November 9th, 2007 @ 12:59 am | food | Post a CommentOne of the great sadnesses of my life is that I am not blessed with the metabolism to eat whatever I want whenever I want (and it shows). And as much as I try to eat salads and whole grains and lots of fruit, I can’t help but love foods that are bad for me. I go through phases of caring more and caring less, but in the end I spend a lot of time obsessing about how I should eat less/better, and then not actually doing it.
Perhaps this constant cycle of desire and guilt is why I like to play “Hypothetical Death Row: What would you eat for your last meal?” (Also, I might be weird. And morbid.)
I suggest we take it up a notch. What would you eat for your last three meals (and a snack)? Here’s mine:
Breakfast
A feta, tomato, and avocado omelet from Dozen’s, a breakfast restaurant in Denver. Potatoes and toast on the side.
Plus one of their delicious cinnamon rolls to start.
Lunch
A club sandwich made with freshly roasted turkey, really good bacon, super juicy tomatoes, and toasted sourdough bread. With a side of crispy, salty fries. And a vanilla milkshake.
Snack
A scoop of peanut butter and a handful of chocolate chips, and a bag of Cheetos. Edit: After posting the recipe over at Sundry’s, I have to trade the pb in for a few of my mom’s oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. YUM.
Dinner
(omg last meal ever, what will I choose? This is hard!)
There is an entree I love at a local Afghan restaurant that is made with fragrant buttery rice, a spicy meat sauce, and sautéed chunks of pumpkin, all topped with some tangy yogurt. I’d have that.
But I also might need a piece of really good pizza.
And chips and salsa.
And for dessert, a piece of cake with a whole lot of frosting and a scoop of ice cream on the side.
I would be shocked if I made it to the end of the day without dying on my own accord of a heart attack. At least I could enter death row in a nice, peaceful food coma.
Your turn: What would you eat?

Hmmm…what a great post!
Breakfast - french toast with grilled ham
Lunch - In N Out Double Double with fries and a (gasp) REAL Coke!
Snack - Oreos and milk…possibly the whole package
Dinner - a big bowl of my grandma’s pasta (she’s from Naples)
Dessert - Mud Pie Blizzard from DQ
Ugh…now I’m hungry!

Well, let’s see.
Breakfast is my favorite meal so this part will be tough. Since this is my last day (also, what would I be on death row for?) I can totally gorge myself on food.
So, breakfast:
I would need a big sampler breakfast that would include scrambled eggs, hash browns, my favorite sausage, brioche french toast and an asiago cheese bagel with lots of cream cheese.
Lunch:
A bleu cheese burger with sauteed mushrooms and onions on a toasted roll with fries and mayo and a large vanilla milk shake.
Snack:
PB&J with a tall glass of milk
Dinner:
um, appetizers would have to include lots of cheese and bread and they totally aren’t serving me appetizers in jail…
Meatloaf, with a baked potato, corn with lots of butter, penne pasta with gorgonzola sauce, thanksgiving stuffing, big italian meatballs, carrot souffle with a dessert of fantastic bread pudding, ice cream, pear pie crisp, and lots of chocolate.
Obviously, I’m dieting right now.

omigod i love this. lemme see…
breakfast:
crepes. with strawberries. and hash browns. oj and a full-fat vanilla latte. english muffin with butter AND jelly. oh, yum.
lunch:
a torpedo sandwich from my favorite italian deli. jalapeno chips. a non-diet soda. macadamia nut white chocolate chip cookies.
snack:
lots of super salty chips and hot hot salsa.
dinner:
hmm…this crazy insane macaroni and cheese my husband makes, plus a big fat steak, medium rare, with sauteed onions and mushrooms. and a baked potato with tons of sour cream.
for dessert, a slice of kahlua cream cheese pie.
that’s a heart attack waiting to happen. yum!

I’d eat the prison guards. Then I’d escape on a homemade, leaky boat, never to be found again. I would become a legendary conspiracy theory.
Damn. I really should stop watching so many movies.

I’m too bleary-eyed to think about food. But, if you were to kick the bucket from a heart attack, at least you’d be going out on your own terms instead of being injected full of venom!

I’m thinking bacon. Lots and lots of bacon. There’s few things in the world quite as nice as some great bacon.

Lord, this is embarrassing because I could eat pasta for every meal. No exaggeration. I’m not a fan of breakfast foods (other than eggs) and I love heavy, heavy foods. Witness:
1st meal: If I had my way, it would be something like leftover mac and cheese. If I have to choose a breakfast food, it’s buttermilk pancakes with a side of fresh fruit. Like strawberries. Mm.
2nd meal: A giant bowl of chili with lots of cheddar cheese on top. Potato optional.
Snack: Unlimited Swedish fish.
3rd meal: Baked ziti, fresh out of the oven, with tons of meat, cheese, and chunks of tomato. Parmesan cheese to sprinkle. Salad on the side with Greek dressing. A root beer. A root beer float for dessert.
Mm. At least I packed the chili in my lunch today…

You’re making me drool. My ideal last meals would be.
Breakfast: Biscuits and gravy with eggs over easy and sausage, unlimited coffee and a really good scone
Lunch: Roast beef and cheddar sandwich with horseradish mayonnaise, french fries, cherry coke
Snack: pita chips and Cibo chipotle dip, molasses cookies
Dinner: My mom’s Swedish meatballs, Swedish potato sausage, red potatoes, green beans, rice pudding (AKA- Christmas Eve food), red wine
Dessert: red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting
Wow. After doing this, I am really upset that lunch is still hours away!

Your final meals sound amazing! I’ll have what you’re having
But really I’d have to think about it. That’s a TOUGH question.

Oh man, whatever I want??? Here goes.
Breakfast: stack of pancakes from the Pantry in downtown Los Angeles
Lunch: Angus burger with swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms, and garlic fries
Dinner: HUGE juicy steak, Mom’s lasagna, 10-year cheddar cheese, a good Cabernet Sauvignon, and two or three molten chocolate cakes
Yikes. Like Nic, I am also on a diet.

Wow what a great thing to think about and right before lunch!
Ok here I go:
Breakfast
Belgian walffles with syrup, hash browns (the real potato kind), and fresh fruit
snack
Nachoes
lunch
3 cheese pizza with green peppers and pinneapple on it with a big Cherry coke
dinner
Cajun chicken and shrimp with garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli, green beans
Then I would have pumpkin pie and a rocky road ice cream!
I would be so content I wouldn’t mind dieing! Sad to say though!

Breakfast: I am so indecisive and love variety, so french toast, home fries, scrambled eggs, broccoli, a piece of bacon and a biscuit at Farmhouse in Omaha
Lunch: any of the pita sandwiches at Lost Dog with a side of waffle fries
Snack: an apple with pb
Dinner: juicy filet with garlic mashed potatoes and veggies
Dessert: a Ghirardelli brownie with vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate sauce (and maybe bananas)
(That was fun!):)

Well since I’m on a diet this could be dangerous.
Breakfast: French toast and crispy bacon. Hot chocolate with whip cream.
Lunch: A greasy burger, fries w/ ranch dip, and a chocolate shake. (If I’m going to die the next day calories don’t count right.)
Dinner: Either California Pizza Kitchens garlic chicken pizza, or really yummy Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, and garlic bread, Mountain Dew to drink.
Snack: (since I like to snack at night it would come last) Molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

Hmm this is kind of tricky, but a good question…
Breakfast: Ham and cheese omlette from The Original Pancake House (funny I know).
Lunch: In N Out Cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate shake.
Snack: does bruschetta count as a snack? Because I love it.
Dinner: A toss between enchiladas and my mom’s chicken broccoli casserole, both are equally fantastic.
Dessert: Brownie with cookies and cream ice cream perhaps? Not quite sure actually.
(that was kind of fun to think about)

I’m going to have to think for a while about what all three meals would consist of, but regardless there would be about a MILLION Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups thrown in there! Maybe I would just sculpt them into the different shapes, like an omlette or a sandwich or a turkey, for the other meals.
What a good thought topic!

This is SO fun, yet SO bad for me…
Breakfast: Beignets and a frozen coffee from Cafe DuMonde in New Orleans. Or a sausage mcmuffin with cheese, no egg from McDonald’s. OR an Asiago cheese bagel from Bread Co. with sun ripened tomato cream cheese. Am fat.
Lunch: Something from the breakfast category that I didn’t finish off
Dinner: This is tough call.
Flo’s filet from Longhorn with mashed potatoes or a sweet potato.
OR
Shrimp Trio from Red Lobster and the cheese biscuits…oh now I love the cheese biscuits.
OR Macaroni Grill’s penne rustica. With a piece of the BBQ chicken pizza. Yeah I’d probably go with this one.
Dessert? Pumpkin Pie Blizzard.
Wow, I’m hungry.

I forgot my snack! Nachos from the ballpark with jalapenos.
Obviously I’m taking this seriously.

November 9th, 2007 @ 5:29 pm
Breakfast: grits, 2 eggs over easy, bacon or ham, wheat toast and strawberry jelly. Served with coffee and an orange juice. I will have to chip the eggs into the grits, mix them, and sprinkle with a tiny bit of salt, and a ton of pepper.
Another cup of coffee (cream and sugar).
Lunch: Chinese food! Hunan beef, fried rice, egg roll, and hot and sour soup. Green tea with lots of sugar. I love chinese so maybe some “tastes” of chicken lo mein, and kung pao chicken and shrimp. Mmmmmm!
Dinner: Spaghetti and meatballs with parmesan cheese. Sweet ice tea, southern style. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and an icey cold glass of milk for dessert.
Late night snack: pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream. Follow up with a coffee with a dash of baileys.
Great idea!

I can’t think straight enough right now to plan the whole day’s meals, but I do know that at some point during my last day I would be eating a Napoleon pizza. As in a pizza that is really from Naples, no sad American attempt at a knockoff. And lots of gelato. Ditto on the no American knockoffs allowed.

Wow, this is really hard and I am really indecisive. I would first revel in the fact that I can eat carbs and it won’t matter one bit…then I would have, for breakfast:
1. Crepes. Lots of filling choices like sugar, cinnamon, jelly, nutella, strawberries, bananas. Not for the same crepe, of course, because that would be nasty. I’d have a strong cup of really good coffee
2. For lunch I’d have a crab cake sandwich, hush puppies and a big sugar cookie with M&Ms.
for a snack I’d have a muffin with butter and some potato chips.
3. For dinner I’d have a lobster, crab, shrimp, clams, sushi, clam chowder and cornbread(random). For dessert I’d have cheesecake and chocolate fondue…
Yeah, then I would probably choke on my own vomit and pass out. Those are some weird combinations of food, Lindsey.

Oh man. So hard to choose.
Breakfast: Bacon, egg and cheese (real cheese, not american) on a buttered english muffin with a huge cup of hazelnut coffee. Real sugar, no splenda!
Lunch: Chipotle vegetarian burrito with pinto AND black beans (I like to get crazy), med corn sala and guacamole. Plus an order of chips and guac.
Dinner: Pepperoni pizza from Little Italy pizza in Bmore. And I mean an ENTIRE pizza. If I’m going to die, it might as well be from rupturing my own stomach. If I’m still alive afterward, I’ll take a homemade oreo milkshake, which means I mix milk in with oreo ice cream until it is a thick but liquid consistency and then devour. Repeat as many times as possible.

Now this was a very important task - it took all the thinking power I had…
Brekfast: Cinnamon french toast (French bread) with loads of real butter and powdered sugar and a side of fresh berries
Lunch: Chinese chicken salad made at this little place called Comforts where I grew up near San Francisco
Snack: Marble top - dolce vanilla
Dinner: Petit fillet with asparagus with bernaise and garlic mashed potatoes via Mastros - my fav restaurant…
whew - I am hungry!

Breakfast: Cherry crepes from IHOP with scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and hashbrowns with melted cheddar, sour cream and lots of catsup.
Lunch: Chipotle Burrito –vegetarian with black beans, rice, medium green salsa, cheese, sour cream and guacamole
Dinner: Mashed potatoes with blue cheese cream sauce and Japanese cream cheese egg rolls from Joe’s Garage
Snack: Chips and dip, cheese & crackers, and some chocolate-covered gummi bears
Dessert: Mince pie with brandy sauce

I’d eat all the things I usually don’t allow myself to eat!
Breakfast: pancakes. LOTS of pancakes.
Lunch: an entire loaf of warm, homemade Easter bread with cinnamon butter. Yeah, it’s more of a dessert, but what the hell.
Dinner: pizza with extra cheese.
Dessert: ice cream, of course! Now, as to what flavor… this may take a while…
Dying on a carbohydrate high, that’s the way to go!

It took me awhile to comment, because I needed to think about this one. The only thing I’ve come up with, is not 3 separate meals, but an all-day bingefest. Foods included would be pizza, steak, hot chips, sausages, lots of junky goodness that lasted all day long. Because I just can’t decide!
And you looked totally killer hot in that wedding outfit! Pout and all!
I tagged you for the “7 Weird/Random Facts About Me” meme too, if you’re interested!
