maybe I can “sit and be fit” in these chairs
December 5th, 2007 @ 12:57 am | blonde moments, home | Post a CommentDo you guys know what I mean by the title? Gosh, I am so excellent at weaving together two totally unrelated topics. Am basically a literary genius!
Thanks for all your tips and your pity from the last post. It’s nice to know I’m not the only lazy lump out there.
I promise to consider the following recommendations:
- Yoga. Ask my best friend, she will tell you I am the opposite of a yoga person. But I swear, I’ll look up the damn class schedule and give it a fair shot. I just may dress in a burka and pick a spot in the back corner because I do not want to be identified in public as the worst yoga-doer ever. See?! I don’t even know what to call it! Yogi?
- Signing up for a race (thanks, Laurel, Queen of the Marathon). This has worked in the past, and maybe it will work again.
- Purchasing some home gym equipment, mostly because it eliminates about 99% of my excuses.
- Finding a new workout buddy because husband ditched me for the gym at his office. Calling all DC residents who are members of a gym that sounds kinda like Shmashington Shmorts Shmlub: Do you want a workout buddy? Holler!
I’m surprised none of you mentioned that I should start breastfeeding to lose 500 calories a day instead of running for an hour on the treadmill. Oh, perhaps because it would mean I’d have to have a baby first (and gain 35 pounds). And then I wouldn’t be able to run around with my “I’m not pregnant!” disclaimer after every sentence that has to do remotely with nausea, weight gain, moodiness, marriage, babies, clumsiness, forgetfulness, or virgin piña coladas. Just for the record, virgin piña coladas have many nutritional benefits, such as…lemme get back to you on that one, okay?
But nevermind all this because I know why you all are really here: for the chair pictures. Now that I have talked them up so much, I hope the photos don’t disappoint.
BEFORE: Fugly
AFTER: Lovely
The chairs remain wood-colored for now. What I kinda sorta deep down want to do is paint them something crazy like glossy red or white, but so far my friends have told me that that’s insane and I am not allowed to do it. What do you think?

Oooooh! I love these! And I love the idea of painting them glossy something. I suppose it depends on how the rest of the room is going to look, but I love the idea of a glossy red (or orange! Thank you Domino magazine) or even a creamy color. Very funky-chic.

They look awesome! But, I think they’d be even better in red.
When you come to Denver again, I’ll find us a good yoga class full of non-yogis. It’ll be awesome.

Glossy red or white would be beautiful! Many people are afraid of painting wood, but I say unless it’s an antique or something, paint away!
Another good exercise tip? Get a dog that needs a lot of exercise…I’ve only had my dog for 4 days and I’ve lost 3 lbs already. (Jogging twice a day for 30 minutes helps!)

I think the chairs would look great painted. Your friends are nuts. (I mean that in a good way.)
It really creeps me out what a running evangelist I’ve become. Let me know when I start to reach freaky Jehovah’s Witness territory.

Great work on the cushions. I cannot wait for crafty ohio time!

Ooh, nice job on the chairs! If I were to paint them, they would be white (because, yikes, red?!), but I am always afraid of wanting the wood back at some point. It just doesn’t go out of style, you know?

Maybe a whitewash, so it has that old antique-ish look, but definitely no red. glossy white would be okay too.

I love the new chairs. Nice choice on fabric. Though I’m a naturalist at heart (i.e., keep the wood), I also loooove the idea of a splash of color - if you’re not able to add that accent somewhere else in the room.

i absolutely love the fabric that you chose for the chairs. maybe a glossy antique-white, where you kind of sand the edges to make the wood show through, would look good? even if you leave the wood as-is, you’ve got a good set of chairs.

I like the wood as is but they’re YOUR chairs. And I constantly have to tell people I’m not pregnant either. It’s such a joy, assuring people the fat is just fat.

How about just refinishing the wood to be a very deep brown?
We can go to yoga when you’re here for Christmas if you want.

I love the idea of funkifying the chairs. Maybe a glossy maroon or something….I dont think white or red would match the fabric. They look much better already though!

I love the chairs. DO NOT PAINT THEM.
At first I thought you belonged to the Washington Shorts Club, which I thought was a strange name for a gym.

LOVE the fabric you picked out. i don’t know about red, but white maybe. i guess it depends on the decor/color scheme of the rest of the house.
good work though!

Actually, I totally think you should paint them glossy red. It would really tie your whole color scheme together - you know, the Martha Stewart melamine bowls that you showed us. ‘Twould be perfect, dahling! Plus, the glossy red would give a modern twist to a classic style chair. Go for it!

I don’t think you’re insane, but I do think that the chair looks amazing as it is. I really love it! However if you do decide to paint it I think I’d go for the white instead of red, but it does depend on the rest of the room too. Happy decorating!

red all the way! just make sure it’s the right shade. we ordered red ones for the cafe, and they came back, like, flourescent. it felt like a nursery school. (they’ve since been repainted).
plus i think the right red would look great with the fabric you picked out.

I love the fabric, but I am an old school girl and think you should keep the wood. How about trying some different stain? They have colored stain- you can always strip it off.

Those chairs are lovely! Now you’ll just have to be a nazi when people are over and you’re serving anything involving red pasta sauce. WATCH THE UPHOSTERY! WHERE ARE YOUR HANDS, I CAN’T SEE YOUR HANDS! USE THE NAPKINS, PEOPLE! AHHHH. At least, that’s now I’d be.
Mua-ha.
And I rather like them the wood color. But white would be my next choice.
Good luck on the workout schedule! At this point in the game, I’m just going to ride out the rest of December being a schlub, just like the rest of America. Planning on a fitness overhaul in January doesn’t sound too bad.

What about………………….dove gray???? A Frenchie look? Something in silver?
Was it hard to get the cushion off to recover it? I’ve always wondered about that…
