boringest update ever
December 16th, 2007 @ 10:46 pm | blonde moments, miscellany | Post a CommentSince we last talked, I did indeed come down with a death virus, and then I died, but then I came back to life! So no need to worry about me or anything, I’m all recovered now. Just in time for the home stretch this week. All that stands between me and 12 sweet days of vacation is one week at work. Five days. Forty odd hours. I can do it!
My shopping is only about 80% done, but I think I can finish the rest this week. So far I’m feeling good that I have not yet entered a shopping mall. Most of my purchases have come from Amazon, Etsy, and eBay. And the North Pole, of course!
I was a total hermit this weekend, only left the house one time and that was to go to the grocery store. One block away. We had friends over for dinner last night and I made homemade macaroni and cheese and damn was it good. My cooking lately has almost entirely been out of this cookbook and I must say that I’m consistently pleased with the recipes. The best part is that they explain the why, not just the what and the how to. It doesn’t have big glossy pictures of the food but I don’t even mind because the explanations are so thorough.
Since this post is going up there at the top of the Most Boringest Ever list, can I just rant about something dumb? My stupid freaking washing machine. Yeah, that one that held my clothes hostage. Well, now it’s taking like two hours and making A LOT of noise just to wash one load of clothes, and in the end they are still soapy so I have to do it TWICE! WTF?!?
Somehow, this doesn’t happen to Andrew at all. I must be putting it on the Torture setting. Not that I would know what the different settings are because they are just a bunch of numbers with no explanation and I don’t have a user manual. Sure, I’ll wash this one on 6 1/2 T! What does 6 1/2 T mean? WE DON’T KNOW! Maybe T stands for Torture! Someday I am going to take a picture of it for you and make you decipher it for me.
In other exciting news, I addressed nearly 50 Christmas cards to send out tomorrow. It took a lot longer than I thought it would, honestly. But since I am quite boring these days I didn’t mind too much.
Oh, and here is something funny you can all laugh at me for. You know how I’ve been talking about how my house is so freezing? There is this one window I thought was just old and drafty here in our living room. Turns out, it’s not drafty — it’s been OPEN. Yes, like open and letting in a breeze. Clearly we are up for Homeowners of the Year. They just don’t teach you these things in college anymore, ya know?
It’s probably smart to end there before you think I am any dumber than you must already. I’ll be back with something more lively this week just as soon as my brain gets out of slo-mo mode.

12 vacation days?! I am green with envy. Maybe that washing machine evens it out, though.
No, it doesn’t…

I bought myself The Best Recipe after I couldn’t put someone else’s Christmas gift down. I’m a pretty accomplished cook, but that book is where I start for every new recipe I attempt.

This must be a Scandinavian washing machine? Did you get it at Ikea?
The up side of hand address your Christmas card? Practicing your “fonts.” I’d buy a font of your handwriting any day (or download it for free at the very least.)
Can’t wait to see you soon!

4 days of work to go.
4 days of work to go.
We can do it, Janet. Big breaths.
4 days of work to go……
P.S. Am glad you’re alive again!

Wow, an open window. At least that is the cheapest energy-saving trick known to man. Take that, Al Gore!! I’m cold just thinking about it.

Don’t feel too bad about the window… I was staying at a hotel for work on a Friday night, and my room was two floors below the Rooftop Party Deck. The thump of the music and the din of people talking was driving me nuts, I couldn’t sleep and I had to wake up at an ungodly hour and work the next day. I tried to wait it out, then I got pissed and started calling the front desk to complain, made them bring me ear plugs, called to complain AGAIN and even tried to switch rooms (none were available). in the morning I found that the window was cracked open about 3 inches. Oops.

We had a window in our dining room open for the entirety of last winter. We didn’t discover it until we went around to open the windows in April.

Love that window story. Makes us all feel a bit more human when we make goofs like that.

I am trying so hard not to laugh, but goodness! This is funny stuff! (And I sleep with my bedroom window open all year long, it somehow balances the monster-and-uncontrollable radiator.)

I left the spare bathroom window cracked all spring, summer and fall to keep the cat smell out, but just realized this past weekend that it was still open and THAT is why that bathroom was so cold!

Ah…vacation! I am counting down the hours until Friday when my vacation starts!
Your window story made me laugh. When I moved into my new place I opened my bedroom window a crack just to keep it ventilated, plus I like a cold bedroom. Well, it go really cold, so I finally had to shut it…only I could really hear the wind howling and my room was freezing ALL the time! Come to find out…I hadn’t closed it all the way!
Good thing I keep my bedroom door closed so the rest of the place wasn’t being cooled by my mistake!
Glad you’re feeling better!

Haha, this wasn’t a very boring post, I laughed a lot. Glad you had a boringly relaxing weekend, those are sometimes the best. And yay for Christmas cards, I did about 10 this year, but that’s 10 more than I did last year.
