In 2008

Keep doing:

blogging
de-cluttering
trying new recipes
drinking lots of water

Do more:

floss
run
lift weights
visit museums and other cool things in my own city
keep up with my professional network
read books, not just magazines and blogs (anyone want to recommend some good biographies?)
eat food from local sources
say no to junk food
clean the house a little bit every day

Try something new:

tackle home improvement projects (I have a few ideas up my sleeve)
expand my professional skills (vague, I know)
host a real dinner party for at least 8 people
give my blog a much needed facelift

Avoid:

drinking coffee or other things that stain my teeth
nagging the husband

(I may add more as I think of them.)

**********

While we were home at Christmas my sister confessed she hadn’t had her hair cut in a really long time. I told her I could give her a trim and add a few layers. Before she authorized it, I had to promise to only cut off 2-3 inches.

Well, I am either a liar or an amateur (the latter, I swear) because I kinda chopped off a lot more than that. She was a good sport, and thankfully, the end result was trés cute, don’t you think?

I chopped off my sister's hair

It’s like a whole new twist on Whoorl’s Hair Thursdays! Who’s up next?

comments

  1. Her hair looks great!

  2. Oh, I haven’t seen Kay-Kay in ages! Not since she and Luey put a hole in the yearbook wall with her butt! (Ok, maybe I saw her after that…) So cute!

  3. Wow, I really wish I had a sister who could cut hair! Looks great!

  4. Her hair looks great! You and your sister are both gorgeous… you look SO much alike!

  5. I like how you separated actions into different categories; I think it makes for a better success rate!

I’m drawing a blank at biographies to recommend … I’ve read a bunch of memoirs over the last year, but not so much with the biographies, specifically.

  6. Good job, Janet! I think you have a new calling. I’d let you cut my hair any day, if I lived in D.C.

  7. You clearly could have a back up career as a hairdresser!!

Also, if you’re up for a long-ish read, I loved Schlesinger’s biography of RFK. It’s long, thorough and Schlesinger is a bit of an apologist, but the parallels between the politics of the late 60s and today are astonishing. I’m sure you’d like it.

  8. Holy crap…you did a GREAT job on your sister’s hair.

So, was she happy with it?

  9. DUDE! I’d so let you cut my hair! It looks awesome!

  10. Love the haircut. You missed your calling ;)

  11. Those are some great goals–good luck!!

And your sis’s hair looks fantastic! I’m so jealous of her gorgeous curls…

  12. Can I please just have your sis’s hair?

I like your list but maybe want to have some coffee time/junk food time together? It doesnt count if it is Ohio… right Liz?

  13. A great list! And great job on your sister’s hair!!

  14. I like your list for ‘08…I may have to borrow that one soon. As for a book to read, I highly recommend “The Color of Water” it’s a biography/auto-biography. I loved it.

And your sister’s hair looks great, I like it a lot.

  15. Have you read The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, or Comeback by Claire and Mia Fontaine? They are both memoirs, very well written and will keep you interested!

  16. I just finished ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ by Jodi Picoult…it’s not a biography but I think it’s the best book I read this year.

And what’s up with the good hair gene in your family!

  17. I love your new, new hair. That’s beautiful. Wish my hair looked that darn cute curly.

  18. She needed that haircut, she can’t be getting all attached to her long hair like someone else we know! It looks good - better I say!

  19. Your sister’s hair looks sooo good! I love it! I didn’t you know you were so talented in the hair cutting department!

  20. I love the curly haired look!

  21. Her hair looks great. Wanna cut my hair?

  22. I got here through several degrees of bloggers but essentially, originally from Jennsylvania.com. Jen Lancaster is a
very funny blogger and author of ‘Bitter Is the New Black’ and ‘Bright Lights, Big Ass’. Both are hilarious memoirs and good reads.

    Thought you might be interested!

  23. I’m not sure if this is technically a biography, but it is non-fiction and it’s really good. You NEED to read the book Eat.Pray.Love.
It’s probably the best book I’ve read in years. It’s well written and inspirational without being “self-help”. It’s in the travel section.
    And - great hairstyling.

  24. I am totally with you on avoiding things that stain the teeth.

And I second the motion on Eat.Pray.Love. It’s a great book.

  25. I admire your “avoid things that stain teeth” goal. I just can’t do without coffee or red wine!

And regarding the Master Cleanse, no, I probably wouldn’t do it again. Besides giving me a much needed kick-start into better eating and exercise habits, the results weren’t really worth the pain.

  26. Give up coffee?? I don’t think I could ever do that. Sigh. I drink it with a straw, does that help? :)

  27. I think you did a fantastic job, actually - is your sister’s hair naturally curly? Looks beautiful either way. :)

  28. You did a great job with her hair! I’m on my way over….

  29. The Turkish Lover by Esmeralda Santiago and Lucky by Alice Sebold. Both will make you cry :)

  30. Among all your other talents, I had no idea that you had such mad hairdressing skillz! :)

  31. I can tell you two are sisters for sure! I really like her hair curly.

  32. Will you please come to SLC and cut my hair and somehow make it curly too?

    xox

  33. Hey from Seattle.
