round and round

It’s possible I have scurvy because I simply can’t stop eating all things citrus. (Or maybe that means that I definitely don’t have scurvy? I’m not sure.) Today I ate a clementine, an orange, and a blood tangerine. And I’d eat a grapefruit right here and now if I had one, but I don’t.

I even arranged my citrus all pretty like on my plate, see?

(This is me, worshiping my food, adoring my food. Not abusing my food. Not devouring my food. Repeat 25 times and your hunger will go away, or something.)

Hey, speaking of plates, I need your help on a décor issue. A Pottery Barn catalogue arrived about 2 weeks ago and thus commenced a love affair with these plates.

Aren’t they perfect? The only way I could adore them more if is Martha Stewart made them herself. Alas, I don’t know exactly what I want to do with them, other than I’d like to hang them on the wall in my dining room. I could do what the lovely folks at Pottery Barn did, and hang them in a kind of circular pattern around a larger focal point. See Exhibit A. (Image courtesy Pottery Barn)

Or, I could use these plates to make a larger, uhhhh, plate blob of many plates. Don’t let the word blob deter you, I adore this blob! See Exhibit B.

Or, I could do anything else! Straight rows and columns. A nice rectangle. None of the above. Fill in the blank.

What would you do? (Here is where I would insert a lovely little poll, but my blog can’t handle the code for it so instead you must vote the old-fashioned way. Heads down, thumbs up. Or, just in the comments. Thanks!)

comments

  1. I love the idea of them on the wall… I also love them on the table with the matching glasses! I admired them this weekend in Chicago…

  2. I like the idea of them on the wall in straight rows and columns. Pretty!!

  3. SEVEN UP! (heads down, thumbs up… bah… nevermind.)

I like the first picture of the plates, all crooked-like. Of course, it looks like that could get complicated. If it is, then straight rows and columns would be good. Those plates are adorable!

Also: I craved citrus (fruit in general, really) while I was pregnant. Hmmmmmm……??!?!

PS- I almost just posted this as you, I was still logged in from when I was poking around your WP panel… ha! That would have been confusing!

  4. I love the blob! Love it! I want a blob, too! Thumbs up.

  5. 1. I love those plates… A LOT
    2. I would hang them like pottery barn did, awesome!

The “blob” arrangement feels more eclectic/fun to me, as if the rest of the house looked like this: http://www.dominomag.com/images/galleries/gasl_2nd_anniv_loved_41.jpg

Both are nice, but different styles.

  6. Did you forget your IKEA mouse pad artistic ability???

  7. I’m in love with these plates as well, and the rest of the new Pottery Barn catalog. And I like the circular pattern, maybe with a curly-que’s or something. ;o)

    xox

  8. You definitely don’t have scurvy if you’ve eaten any fruit or veggies in the last month.

I love the plates, but not so much the plate blob. I think that might go out of fashion before you can say insider trading… :D

  9. I’d adore my food too if it looked that pretty. And if I had such sassy plates.

  10. Go with Option A. Very classy!

And if you haven’t figured out what you’re doing with those plates in the next week, I’m catching a plane to see you and they’ll be confiscated.

  11. I love the way Pottery Barn does it. Why must everything Pottery Barn does look so perfect?? Why don’t I live in a Pottery Barn perfect house??????? WHY??????????

Oh, maybe because I’m broke?? I forgot.

  12. I know I am not a big blog commenter, but why are we not just EATING off the plates?? I do think they are quite adorable however. In fact, they look like some plates I got my girfrined as a wedding present from Anthropologie. Maybe I hgave them to the worng friend….hmmmm.

  13. I like both options, but maybe it would be better to not get a full set of plates if you’re gonna hang them on the wall. I like the blob in part because it’s a collection of different plates but with similar themes/colors. A full set of the same plates might just look like they belong on your table instead!

  14. I like the blob. In fact, I LOVE the blob. But, as for which will work better, I think that all depends on the size of the wall.

  15. I’m confused - do you already have the plates? If so, how many? Are they all different?

While I admire the blob, I could never pull it off, so I’d be more likely to hang them in some symmetrical, geometric way so that I could measure and align my way to happiness. But really, I’d be most likely to set them up on little stands in my hutch for easy grabbing when dessert time rolled around.

  16. Gosh, I heart PB!! Those plates are FANTASTIC…and of course I love the way that PB arranged them in their photo…cause after all, I heart PB!! I wasn’t a big fan of the blob…but with those plates, you really can’t go wrong, so I’m sure whatever you do will look great!

  17. I am addicted to winter citrus right now, too! It’s a guilt-free addiction, which is nice for a change.

I like both of the sample plate-hanging options you’ve selected, but could also see them in a cross- or diamond-like shape (which might take up less wall-space than the blob).

  18. I like the Pottery Barn arrangement. Eating off them isn’t an option??? :)
Are you sure you’re not pregnant with all this fruit obsession? Fruit was one of the few things I craved (and pizza.)

  19. I thought I left a comment, but it isn’t showing up. If this is a dup, feel free to delete.

I wrote that I am ALSO craving winter citrus and that it is a guilt-free addiction!

Also, I like both plate arrangements you’ve proposed, but I think they’d also look nice in a cross- or diamond-like shape (which might take up less wall space than the blob).

  20. I love plate blob 2 in many ways- Makes me think I should have gotten a plate at a tag sale of the American presidents from 40 years ago for you…it would contribute to the eclectic nature and reflect this history of your home!

  21. I just wish I had money to buy plates, let alone extra money to buy them just to stick them on the wall. I would go into debt for such an ideal though…

  22. […] the current one. So we tweaked it a bit (LOVE the cherry idea, Janet should be a designer- I mean, look at her taste in plates! So cute!) I’m totally blushing, because she called me ‘the nicest, prettiest, smartest ever web […]

  23. I am trying to hang this plates in my kitchen. I noticed how Pottery Barn has them layered almost. I was wondering if you were able to acheive the same effect. What kind of plate hangers did you use?

Your help would be very much appreciated! My husband and I are getting frustrated trying to get this done! We have had the plates for several weeks but trying to figure out how to get the layered look.

  24. I have a feeling the layered look comes from the plates not actually hanging on the wall, but on clear fishing line (or something similar)from the ceiling. Just a hunch. Plate hangers don’t stick that far away from the wall to allow such layering, without the plates knocking each other off!

  25. Did anyone ever really figure out how to hang the plates? I’ve had them for months and am at a loss! I bought glue-adhesive “plate hangers” that did NOT work…I tested them on a plate I didn’t like. Crash!

Isn’t it funny that we’ve shared this same frustration and can’t get an answer? Shouldn’t Pottery Barn tell us how ….somehow????
