a day off brought to you by roy g. biv
February 18th, 2008 @ 10:56 pm | dc, life | Post a CommentThis weekend was long on days and low on internet usage, which was great. I’m so computer-bound during the week that it’s nice to use my Macbook as a coaster on the weekends. (Kidding, sort of, as I do have 1.5 years of AppleCare protection left.)
I can’t say I did much that was useful with my offline weekend time, but it was nice nonetheless. We watched more episodes of The Wire, played an intense game of Celebrity with husband’s coworkers, assembled more IKEA furniture, and I went running outside and felt HOT. I say this in all caps because it seems like the last few weeks have been so freezing and/or wet that I forgot what HOT felt like. I also did a lot of house cleaning, not that you would notice because I’m sure it will be a mess again in 3.2 minutes. And I don’t even have children!
This afternoon Mother Nature couldn’t decide between rain and shine. As I was driving down Pennsylvania Avenue right as it crosses the Mall, I saw the most amazing thing. In the sky was a huge, bright rainbow, so bright you could see every color, even the violet. At the end of the rainbow was not a pot of gold, but the United States Capitol. Truly, it could not have been more picturesque. I feel very lucky to live here.
And now, a few questions for you:
Is it possible to get Montezuma’s Revenge from the pizza place down the street? in America?
What scent do you love on your man? (That sounds oddly like a Cosmo headline. Forgive me. And “none” or “deodorant” are perfectly acceptable answers, I’m truly curious.)
How on Earth is it possible to regularly get to bed before midnight and still do all the things you need to do in life?

1) no idea
2) Right now, Versace, but I also like just a good, clean man smell - freshly showered and shaved.
3) If you figure this out, bottle it/write a book on it/whatever and sell it.

Um
1. Yes.
2. Acqua d’Gio….mmmmm
3. It’s not. I’ve tried. It doesn’t happen.

Mmmm, favorite scent on Mr. Man is Very Sexy from Victoria’s Secret, and freshly laundered boy. Yes, that second one is fabulous. ;o)

1) Yikes, I hope not.
2) Soap and deodorant are good enough for me!
3) Still trying to figure that out. (Obviously, it would not involved reading blogs and leaving comments at 11:52pm… hehe)

First off, it’s wonderful to know that our house is not the only one that goes from clean to “what just happened in here” in less time than it takes to blink. Now for the Q&A portion of the evening:
1.) I would not doubt it in the least.
2.) Someone gave the hubs some body wash stuff for Christmas this year and I have no idea what it is, but good Lord that stuff smells yummy! Also, the older Calvin Kline stuff smells absolutely wonderful to me. (not sure about the newer stuff as I have not smelled it)
3.) No. It’s not possible. *looking at clock* 11:58 and no way am I going to make it into bed in 2 minutes. *sigh*

I used to get, ahem, “revenge” from all kinds of things. Especially rich food at fancy restaurants.
My hubby doesn’t wear much for scent. He used Dove soap (hehe) and Right Gaurd. That combo plus his natural smell is good for me.
Ummm, I think you must turn off your computer or your TV or maybe both to accomplish going to bed early. So little to do without those two distractions.

I was visiting my sis in DC this weekend and I swear I saw the sun this morning. It was such a nice change!

1) yes absolutely. i’ve gotten food poisoning like 4 times in the last two years. perhaps i should pick some classier dining establishments. =)
2) acually, i’m really a fan of old spice. apparently, i like MY men to smell ELDERLY.
3) it’s not.

J wears French cologne - that sounds so posh, but it’s true! And it’s the NICEST smell ever. We got it about four years ago on our first Europe tour in a French perfumery called Fragonard, and he’s loved it ever since.

1- Yes, but if it’s in the USA, I think it’s just called diarrhea.

2- Eternity, Hugo Boss, freshly showered
3- lower your expectations of what you need to do in life!

Are you enjoying The Wire as much as we have? We considered getting HBO just to start Season 5 on time. We never did get around to it … so, I await Netflix anxiously!
1) Eiwwww!
2) No idea. He just changed scents and, well. Who am I kidding? I’m not even sure I know what his old scent was. But, both get thumbs up from me.
3) Absolutely not. One thing that’s always exhausted is me, not my list of things to do!!!

Love the rainbow / Capitol moment. And yes, I also agree on the cleaning thing. It’s like a nice meal that takes forever to make and just minutes to eat. Except not as filling.
1. Yes. You poor thing.
2. When DH remembers (usually only dressy occasions) “Chesapeake Bay Spyce” Cologne http://tinyurl.com/yqex5d It’s so yummy. Otherwise, just soap and deodorant.
3. I’m working towards getting to bed at 10:30 instead of 11:30, and it’s going very slowly, even with redefining my expectations. It doesn’t help that we don’t have Tivo/DVR and we like several shows that start at 10pm and last an hour.

The scent that my girlfriend loves on me more than any other? Zest soap. Seriously. Whenever I shower, she takes my arm and sniffs it for hours.
Ok, maybe not hours but you catch my drift. No cologne, no aftershave. Just Zest.

1. Yeah, I think so. Ugh.
2. Is “freshly-shaven” a scent?
3. We operate on teacher time, so we just accept that not everything gets done. The need for sleep overrides ambition.

How is it possible to sleep AT ALL and get everything done? Sometimes insomnia is actually really useful. Either that, or a mental health day off work. I need one of those right now. Maybe I’ll call out with Montezuma’s revenge tomorrow.

Yes, I think it is possible.
The King wears Gucci. It’s lovely. His fave is Gucci Rush, but we can’t find it anymore.
I got to bed way early and still get stuff done. Well, okay, not a lot of stuff I guess.

It seems like cologne wearing and getting to sleep on time are correlated.

1. Yes I think so, unfortunately.
2. I love the Old Spice deodorant he wears that and I believe it’s Hugo collogne, oh man, amazing.
3. I go to bed before midnight a lot and I don’t know what I have to do still. Maybe I’ll be busier when I’m living on my own.
Anyhoo, Happy Tuesday!

I have been trying for years to get Colby to wear cologne on a regular basis, alas it seems to be a losing battle. And so I settle for Old Spice deodorant–the green or blue kind. It’s not terrible

1. Definitely!
2. Lanvin (I sometimes wear it, because he doesn’t wear it often enough) or Freshly Shaved.
3. It isn’t.

1) What kind of pizza? Eeeeek…. scary
2) The man wears a variety of Burberry scents and they’re lovely. Delicious for men smells good, too. Oh but my all time favorite is Dolce & Gabbana … heavenly. Course the ex wears that so eh.
3) NO. And its very disheartening. There is no going to bed early around here. Sigh.

1. Yes, and not just pizza.
2. I love Bulgari on a man. My boytoy doesn’t wear cologne, but he smells like a combo of Suave soap and Old Spice red deodorant.
3. I get most of my “home” work done between 10-midnight. So, I vote no.

I saw that rainbow driving across the Memorial Bridge yesterday afternoon–beautiful!
1. Never happened to me with pizza, definitely has with Chinese.
2. I like my husband’s Right Guard deoderant. Cologne is kind of a turn-off for me.
3. I just don’t do all the things I need to do, and I go to bed at 10pm. Meh. C’est la vie…

Housecleaning: The joke in our house is that I clean the stove and kitchen so that Hub-E can cook in it and splatter grease all over, messing it up. Seriously! It’s like he doesn’t cook if the kitchen is a mess, but the SECOND I clean it, he comes along and makes it a mess again.
Scents on Him: We are not perfume wearers because it makes Hub-E sick. I just like his own personal scent. Especially on the side of his neck. Mmmm…

This past Christmas I bought Jason the new Ralph Lauren Polo EXPLORER. I love all Polo colognes, but this one is a little more ‘rugged’ than the others, which totally fits Jason’s personality. It smells SO good! It’s by far my favorite of his colognes. Sometimes though, before he puts it on, I notice how good his deodorant smells…I think he switches between Old Spice & Axe. Mmmm.

It sounds like you just wrote about our weekend- except we didn’t have pizza. We adore The Wire, so caught up on it, and went to IKEA twice! Jon has been wearing Acqua Di Gio from Armani and it’s yummy.

1) yes…it happened to me not too long ago
2) is there anything better than a yummy-smelling boy? seriously. (well maybe a fresh-bathed newborn tops it…but just barely). i really like how curve for men smells…but generally any boy wearing a nice cologne is my favorite, haha
3) i wouldn’t know, as i never get to bed before midnight, and i also never get everything done…

Re: the scent thing. I hate strong scents on a man. I love when my husband has on just really nice deodorant. We also used to get this milk bath (I bought a huge basket on sale for like $10 and I haven’t seen it since) and it smelled so good. So I guess clean but not scenty.
My dad wears Old Spice as did my grandpa. So, in a familiar sense I love old spice but it would obviously freak me out if my hubby started wearing it!
I never stay up till midnight. And i get a lot done. But, I get up at 4:45 (with no alarm … pathetic) so I get my stuff done early.

3. I have no idea. Tell me if you figure this out!!

1. Anything is possible.
2. Nothing specific. I just like a good man smell. A good smell and a deep voice and my knees go weak.
3. It’s not, but I’ve made a vow to myself to have my butt in bed no matter what.
