weekend entropy
April 20th, 2008 @ 11:07 pm | life | Post a CommentMight as well just get this one over with: I (re)joined Weight Watchers this weekend. I could probably write 17 posts on the topic (such as Again!? Oh, yes Again!) but I’d like to keep it short and sweet at least until I can start writing about on my success. For those of you who know and love WW (and I know you’re out there) I’m asking that you be my cheerleader (and I’ll be yours), because goodness knows I need all the help I can get. What are your favorite recipes/tips/mantras to make it past the hungry stage?

Even more than the text messaging, I am loving the camera/email functions on my iPhone. I can snap a photo and via email upload it to flickr within seconds. I notice that I’m taking a lot more photos of everyday life. None of them are particularly great (2 megapixels, no flash, no fancy settings) but I’m having fun with it.

I absolutely love having people over to our house. Last night we had some couple friends over for homemade pizza. I spent the afternoon with my lovely KitchenAid mixer making dough. When our guests arrived we sat out back and grilled the pies one at a time on a pizza stone in the grill. Then we came in and sardined on the couch to watch episodes of Flight of the Conchords. And this morning the cleaning fairy my husband made all the mess go away!

I’m thankful that the bad economy has not affected our life in any major way. However, are you people noticing how much food is costing these days? The flour I bought to make the pizza dough last night cost like $6.39 per bag. I notice that eggs and cheese are also pricier. As are Dove Dark Chocolate Promises, but even a girl on a diet deserves one point of chocolate each day, doesn’t she???

You definitely deserve that chocolate. And dark is the best kind, after all! I’m actually starting my healthy kick again as of today - so can I jump on the cheerleader squad, even if I’m unofficially on Dub Dub?

Good for you! And I am jealous of your phone to flickr upload function. No, wait. I’m jealous of your iphone. Yes, that’s it.
And yes, the food issue is becoming, well, a big issue. I need to educate myself more about it, but what I’ve heard so far is distressing, to say the least.

I’m on WW again too. Down 8 lbs in 2 weeks. Yeah! Although now I need to go shopping for more work clothes, but at least I have casual clothes that I’m fitting back into! As for recipes, I’m usually blogging them…
And I love “twitter”ing via text messages from my cell phone!
And yes, the economy sucks. I know I’m lucky, but need to re-think riding the bus to work!

Today is the two week anniversary of me joining Weight Watchers. I will weigh in after work to see my results. I don’t think I’ve lost any weight this week though. And I don’t get it because I’ve stayed within my points every day. The hardest part for me is late night snacking. I’ve got to figure out what I can do to stop that. At least I have switched out all my snacking foods to healthy ones.
Oh and I also hate exercise. At my first weigh in last week I had lost three pounds. I’m really hoping to have done that again this week.
And Isabel has been my biggest supporter so I’m sure she’d be happy to support you as well. Me too!

Food is expensive (might be my new diet - not be able to afford to eat!). Gas is expensive, too. Just yesterday, my fiance and I noticed a gas station in Chicago where gas was $3.99 for 87 octane. Oh my!

Yes, our grocery bill has crept up ever so slightly, too. But for the most part, we are battling through the economic downturn unscathed, gas prices notwithstanding.
Can you share your method for grilling pizzas? JG is not convinced that that is doable, and all I have so far is my sketchy recall from an episode of Barefoot Contessa.
Good luck with WW!

I also just started WW…again. This Thursday will be Week 2, but I’ve gotten to Week 2 at least five times before. But, I’m hoping this time will be the right time. Good luck and we can definitely be each other’s cheerleaders!!

Hooray for WW. I think it’s been about 4 weeks for me. And while, I admit, it’s hard…it’s working. I’ve lost 6 pounds so far. I weigh in this Wednesday.
I’ll be happy to add you to my “I made this WW recipe last night and it was so good” e-mail list.
Also, grocery shopping is kicking my trash. Food is so much money. AHHH!!

Woot! Another WW buddy! Welcome to the club!
I will definitely share tips & recipes…and please do the same! I can tell you that this weekend I found what may be one the best invented foods ever.
Hostess 100 Calorie Packs! You get 3 little cupcakes and they have a variety of flavors (I bought the chocolate and cinnamon ones)…I was expecting them to be 2 points, which I was totally ok with, but when I calculated them they ended up being only 1 POINT!!! Try them…they are delicious…and totally help satisfy the sweet tooth!

I love homemade pizza! Good idea to make it for a dinner party since you don’t have to watch too closely over it. Good luck with WW!

Mmm grilled pizza sounds delicious! I started WW on my own and was amazed how well it works. I highly recommend the WW huge chocolate ice cream bars. They’re only 1 point each but you are totally full and they don’t have that grainy “diet ice cream” flavor.
Also, All-Bran crackers have saved me lots of points. They come in lots of flavors and you have 18 crackers for only 2 points. I have also tried the WW cheese and it is ok but does not melt. I would skip it and just get the regular fat free of whatever brand you like.
Good Luck!!

Food really is getting more and more expensive. It’s almost as cheap to go out to eat sometimes with the prices we’re paying for ingredients to make dinner. But I do love homemade pizza.

I have noticed that my plain nonfat yogurt at Trader Joe’s keeps going up and up. It’s depressing! I don’t want to spend money on food when there are so many shoes in the universe to purchase instead!

Go WW! You can do it.
I totally agree that food is getting very $$! Just as the number of people in my family who actually eat real food is growing!

I was actually really lucky with the last house party I had–one of the guests got up when we were finished eating and went and put all the dishes in the dishwasher, and another one did what dishes didn’t fit.
A girl could get spoiled…

GIMME A ‘J’!!! GIMME AN ‘A’!!!! GIMME AN ‘N’!!!!!!…
oh wait… you didn’t mean THAT kind of cheerleader, did you? lol
My advice about the hungry stage at the beginning is to drink lots of water. I’ve found it helps make you feel full (without any points! woo!) until it’s time for your next snack or meal.

I joined WW last Monday and I’ve lost 3 pounds in the first week! I found the site http://www.weighttracker.info where you can keep track of your points and weight. I find it extremely helpful instead of carrying around a notebook all the time to keep track of what I eat.
I love the Quaker Granola Bars as a good snack and they’re 2 points. I bought a Weight Watchers Cookbook at Target that has a bunch of recipes and their point equivalent. igoogle.com also has a Point Widget which I find helpful.
Good luck!

Food HAS gone up. I spend far too much and I’m one person.
I actually read some fact today that the prices ofe staples are higher than they’ve ever been.
Good luck with WW! I need to get back on track FOR REAL this time after I get back from Vegas this weekend. You can do it!

My fourth week at WW; maybe closing in on the first 5 lbs. It’s tough being short, old, female and a couch potato, but I’m gaining a realistic understanding of how little all my exercise is worth in points!! We biked 50 miles on the tandem Thursday and I took 10 points.
I also support drinking lots of water. I eat oranges rather than OJ. I like the vegetable soup recipe in the first book; no points!! and filling. 2-3 tsps of PB on a mini whole wheat pita is a great lunch or snack.
You can do it! We’re all out here cheering for you!

Oh WW. How I love to hate WW. Damn them for making me lose weight and knowing how to do it. They do this freaking trick of making you eat good and wanting you to excercise. Bah.

I’ve ALWAYS wanted a pizza stone–how did the pizzas turn out? I’ve definitely noticed the price of groceries going up. The result is that I’ve been eating out more because, oddly enough, the price of a sandwich at my favorite deli has NOT gone up!

i’ve never tried weight watchers, but when i buy food for my lunch at work i try to get something healthy (key word:try). but a lot of the 100 calorie packs are REALLY fabulous. i don’t know how they calculate to WW points, but i’m sure not very many

It sucks to do, but good for you.
I’m re-joining soon. fun.

I just got back on track today! I lost 28 pounds on WW from December 2006 - February 2007. I’ve gained about 20 back (lame!) but it does work. And the water was really important in feeling ‘full’ and I heart the 100 calorie packs (they are usually 2-3 points). Also, pretzels.

You’re such a gem. Just hafta say.
Good luck with Weight Watchers! I’ve heard many good things about them, and I’m totally sucked in by their whole marketing thing. “Diet’s don’t work. Weight Watchers does.” It makes me happy.
As far as food advice: Green Tea works wonders on fighting the munchies, water in the same way, baby carrots are good but also are the devil because they never fill you up, and definitely limit the junk food in your home because I’ve found that if it’s in mine, I will find it and eat it all (and I do mean ALL) in a moment of weakness.
And yes, food is totally more expensive. Whenever I buy milk, I’m always all, “What the frick?”
