round the jig at the teeter
May 13th, 2008 @ 11:37 pm | dc | Post a CommentIn case there is any doubt remaining that I am the oldest, most boring 20something in town, I am going to blog about the grand opening of a grocery store in my neighborhood. Because, let’s be honest, I was pretty psyched about it.
Hello, Mr. Teeter, nice to meet you. May I call you Harris?
Harris and I got off to a fabulous start when I was the lucky winner of a $25 gift card just for signing up for the VIC rewards program. Cha-ching! Mama likeys free things.
True story: Last year my sister-in-law and I drove to the Carolinas to visit our other college roommate. (The same girl with a crush on the Ninja Turtle Rafael, as a matter of fact.) In giving us directions to her apartment, she said in her best Alabamian accent, “Go ’round the jig at the teeter.”
Being that I am from Colorado and sister-in-law is from Delaware, we had no freaking clue what she was talking about with all this jig teeter business. But now I know better, because I too live around the jig from the Teeter. And boy is she purdy.
There were tons of freebies tonight. Free wine. Free beer. Free cheese. Free ice cream. More wine, a lot of wine. I was kind of in love. (I overheard one woman threaten to stand at one particular wine stand and ask for refills all night, which didn’t go over too well. Security please!)
Better than the wine was the sheer beauty of the place. You have never seen a grocery store like it. It was pristine. It was an obsessive-compulsive’s heaven. Just look at these rows. Endless neat and tidy, fully stocked rows.
Something tells me it won’t be hard to spend my $25. But what should I buy first?

Oh, look at all the glorious cheese!!!!

I can’t believe you just blogged about HT - on the very night I was going to myself. I am in love with this place - the only place I can find large, beautiful Fuji apples, the loveliest wine display you’ve ever seen, and so many new brands and foods to try. I picked up sweet potato chips tonight. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that they stock Gifford’s ice cream in pints! So long Safeway!

You are the best…blogging about a grocery store opening
I can’t judge. When a new Ralphs grocery store opened in downtown LA, my husband and I rushed over for opening day. And it wasn’t even in our neighborhood!

That really does look like grocery store heaven. How have I never even heard of this place? I’d use the $25 to test out the sushi! It actually looks pretty tasty, and then, even if it’s dreadful, you don’t have to bemoan the fact that you wasted any real money!

i fell in love with the teet when i lived over in pentagon city and was about a five minute walk from the 24 hour one over there (after one party at my old house boyfriend went for a walk at 3am and came back with frozen pizza…who does that?!) so i’m pretty excited about this one - it looks like a shiny new penny
we were going to go to that thing last night but by the time i got home…i was crashin’ and burnin’ from being up at 4am

ahh, the hairy teet. this, too, is my favorite grocery store - being in the carolinas & all. I love their $1.99 sub sandwiches and wonderful self-serve salad bar. yum…

I love Harris Teeter. The first time we went right after work, and we didn’t even need dinner when we got home. There’s always free bread, cheese, meat, and other yummy snacks available. Definitely one of my favorite grocery stores, but beware it can get a little pricey. Just look for the sales and stock up.

I wonder if the alley Cheetah will buy his groceries there…He’ll probably be the doofus to mess up canned good, looking for some tuna.

Harris Teeter is one of the few things I miss about my old “home” in North Carolina. Their hummus, homemade spinach ravioli, and vodka sauce are my favorite! (I did stumble upon the Whole Foods in my neighborhood the other day, so I think I will survive without an HT near me!)

It looks as gorgeous as the Wegman’s in Hunt Valley. Which I make a point to stop at anytime I’m in the area because let’s face it: wandering around Wegman’s is the most excitement I might have in a week.

I saw these pictures on your photostream last night, and I was like, “What the heck is a Harris Teeter?” I passed it off as a southern thing, as I am such a YANKEE. Heh.

I wonder if I’ll live around the jig from a Teeter in a few years? That sounds WAY cooler than saying I currently live a few minutes from a Giant Eagle.

Ooohh, so pretty! All we have in Cincy is Krogers which is no where near as nice. My MIL calls the store near her “the Teeter”. And sadly, as a native southerner I understood your friend’s directions and have given directions eerily similar to them.

What a lovely grocery store? A Harris Teeter in Arlington, VA was my first suburban grocery store experience post-NYC move and I remember being in awe of it’s gorgeousness (and cleanliness). Sigh.
Congrats on your big win!

I think this means you are officially an adult. Yes, the whole graduating college, real job, marriage thing does too. But, excitement about a super market is just so…adultish.

Me loves the Teeter! I don’t live a jig away but it’s like a Whole Foods in it’s variety and pleasantry. Giant and Safeway could learn a thing or two….or there or four.
Thanks for blogging about the opening and -cheers- to the free wine and beer and cheese. Hazaah

I have not been to this HT yet, but went to the Adams Morgan branch last week and it was a little bit like Heaven! I am such a nerd about grocery shopping, so much that my boyfriend hates going with me, because I insist on going up and down every.single.isle….including the ones with baby food and pet food, neither of which I have!
This HT isn’t too far from my apartment either, so I will surely be wandering over there in the near future!

I love Harris Teeter, there’s one close to my apartment and I walk there occassionally to spend many, many dollars on many, many overpriced and unncessary foodstuffs. Buy something at the fish counter, they always have great stuff there!

Wait a minute… Are you saying there’s a Harris Teeter in our neighborhood? NE or SE? Where is it???? I’ve been going to the Safeway on Maryland AVE NE, which I HATE. Sometimes we make the trek over to the Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s downtown, or to the HT in Pentagon Row, but I would LOVE having a nice grocery store in the neighborhood!!!

Thanks for the shout out Jan! (I love when i make it on your blog, it makes me feel famous.) I cant believe you even remember that happening! Ha Ha Ha, I was laughing immediately when I read the title. I love you! Glad you have wised up to the ways of the Teeter (though I gotta be honest with you…WHO BRINGS THEIR CAMERA INTO THE GROCERY STORE!!! Tell me those were stock photos from the internets…)
