love & hate, hot summer edition
love: My new job lets me work from home a few days a week (or I should say I let myself work from home since I only sort of have a boss).
hate: I don’t have any good snacks in the house for my days working at home, for fear I would eat them all at once!
love: My brilliant husband got a blog post published on the Huffington Post today (thought I’m somewhat hesitant to directly link because it spoils my semi-anonymity, and his too).
hate: Do all of those late nights and all-nighters at his job become instantly worth it for one cool internet moment? Hahahaaaaa, no. But it’s still cool.
love: This Orla Kiely bag and these lovely Frye peep toe pumps. (found at Making it Lovely)
hate: The non-bargain, non-clearance price tag on each of those darling items.
love: Traveling home to Denver in one month for my 10-year reunion, and then to Isle of Palms, SC for a fun getaway with friends.
hate: Still must survive a full month of muggy, hot DC summer in a pantsuit.
love: The idea of making my own yogurt, and then whipping it up into fruity berry smoothies or herby tzatziki dip.
hate: Whenever I think about the making of dairy products, my stomach churns a little. (Pun intended.) (But if Larissa can do it, so can I, right?)
love: I’ve been eating a semi-meatless diet lately, and loving it. This is made much easier by a bounty of summer produce.
hate: I don’t think I’ll ever be succesful in going 100% vegetarian.
love: Not working at my former workplace any more. It was dysfunctional and drama-licious, two things I have very low tolerance for.
hate: My new job, while overall a huge improvement in every way, is still very new, and therefore has me swinging from “I am totally competent and have everything under control” to “I am such a fraud and am in over my head askghfkvjdflkahsflkajdh” and back again in a span of four minutes.
love: Between me learning to golf and my husband making an effort to leave the office earlier at night, I’ve been spending so much more quality time with him!
hate: I suck at golf. And it’s all the worse because one round I was actually pretty good, and had to learn the hard way that it was a total fluke. I think I’m going to start smuggling margaritas into my water bottles.
What are you smuggling into your water bottles loving and hating these days?

love & hate, european vacation edition
love: No working, or checking work email, or even thinking about work, until June 17th.
hate: Imagining just how many zillions of emails will need to be dealt with on June 17th. But blocking that thought out for now.
love: Going to one of my best girlfriend’s wedding this weekend. Yep, this wedding.
hate: A 7:00 AM flight the morning after her wedding. Ouch.
love: Have I mentioned I’m just a teeny, weeny, little bit excited for this wedding? Okay, more like thrilled.
hate: I haven’t shaved my legs in a long time and need to remedy that if I’m going to wear sundresses and swimsuits for the next 10 days.
love: Our house will be in good hands while we’re gone. A friend/coworker is staying here, as opposed to just having a neighbor pop in a few times a day.
hate: I’ll probably miss my cats. How lame is that?
love: On Monday evening I will be in Sardinia, Italy.
hate: It will take from Sunday 7:00 AM until Monday 5:30 PM to get there, and we will pass through six airports to do it. Double ouch if I’m hungover.
love: No internet connectivity while we’re away!
hate: Hope I don’t miss any groundbreaking news. Like Speidi spawning children or something. Nevermind, I wouldn’t want my vacation tarnished with information like that.
love: My lovely mom gave me Euros for my birthday (which is later this month) and ordered me to buy something fun in Europe! My wishlist: lovely art prints, a wallet, and possibly something in the jewelry category.
hate: I won’t be able to call my mom every single morning like I do now.
love: Finally beginning this amazing Ohio/Euro adventure vacation with my sweet husband and friends.
hate: I will miss reading all your blogs, comments, and emails for awhile. But I’ll be thinking of you and writing down (in a pen and paper journal) some good stories. And taking lots of photos, too.
Ciao for now, my darlings!

love & hate: san francisco
love: a free trip to San Francisco, as long as I work every day while I’m here
hate: this hardly leaves me any daytime hours to go exploring
love: my meetings took me over both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge today — stunning!
hate: my rental car is a PT Cruiser — NOT stunning!
love: got a great rate on a cute little boutique hotel (free wine at 5pm every day in the lobby!)
hate: very aggressive begging people on the street outside the hotel (like, they will curse you out when you don’t give them money)
love: friends took me out for sushi two nights in a row
hate: it might be time to branch out to new food before I get mercury poisoning
love: walking up and down the hills of San Francisco = best butt workout you could ask for
hate: just wondering if we are all going to die of swine flu, and am I at an increased risk because I’ve been in three major hub airports this week?
love: watching TV from the hotel bed, feels like a treat because we outlaw television in the bedroom at home
hate: sleeping all alone without my man and my cats. Okay, I kind of don’t miss the cats sleeping on my head.
love: drove past the row of houses from the Full House opening theme (see photo here)
hate: have so much of the city left to see – I only have 36 hours to go!

love & hate good friday
love: My boss is Catholic so she closes the office on Good Friday! This is new to me, and I love it already. So ready for a three day weekend.
hate: Bwahhh, I have to hop on two different conference calls tomorrow. I am too weenie to tell clients I have the day off.
love: My readers are experts in leftover hair! Such great tips in this thread. Let me highlight one in particular: If you don’t like smelling like baby powder, try the lavender and chamomile scented stuff. Thanks, Katie! How many people skipped a shampoo this week for the first time?
hate: That my fave hair guy in DC moved to a new salon on the other side of town. Le sigh.
love: Business trips to NYC and SF coming up this month. Who wants to hang out in the Bay Area???
hate: Booking travel at the last minute because of crazy work schedules. I am not spontaneous enough for this!
love: Prepping for summertime BBQs! Last weekend we cleaned out eight bags of old, wet leaves from from our backyard that had been there since last fall.
hate: We still have a lot of weeding and planting in our future before it looks good back there.
love: Tulips have bloomed a bright red in my front yard; day lillies too.
hate: Daffodils are already done for the year. Couldn’t they have bloomed just a little longer?
love: I think I finally know how I want to decorate our guest bedroom.
hate: I’d rather wait until it could become a nursery and only decorate it once…is that horrible to admit? (Also, that post above was written a year ago. I haven’t made ANY PROGRESS whatsoever in a year. I suck.)
Let me know your loves and hates in the comments, my dearests!

love & hate: friday
love: Jen is helping me ditch slow-as-molasses Yahoo! Web Hosting in favor of having her be my full-service web maven and I totally love her for it.
hate: We are running into a few glitches that can only be explained by lots of geekery so please be patient while she fixes everything in my life site.
love: Business is booming at my office (oddly in a bad economy?) and my boss is trusting me with more and very interesting clients. One of them you have no doubt seen on TV recently!
hate: A 12-hour work day is more normal than not, and that’s hardly sustainable. Need! sleep!
love: I think I sent off blog interview questions to all who wanted them, but let me know if I missed you?
hate: Unread items in my Google reader are reaching unmanageable proportions….oy.
love: Forecast calls for 49 degrees and sunny on Sunday — and I am so thrilled about it I proposed we go hiking.
hate: If I lived in Denver I’d see the sun 6 days a week. Not here though…
love: Internet friends who help me plan my vacations, like Anne with her Orlando advice and Hola Isabel who is going to help me score a great hotel in Paris.
hate: That I cannot pack each and every one of you to my Italian-beach-bound suitcase. I don’t think the husband would like that very much. No offense.
love: My late 20s are great, really: I have friends who are having babies (squee!), getting married (squee!), and making out with new cute boys (squee!). It seems like we have all passed the quarter-life crisis hump and things are pretty good.
hate: Sometimes I feel like I work so much I don’t have time or energy to keep up with all the people I’d like to. Actually, more than sometimes. Mostly all of the time.
love: That I am over being over blogging — I needed a break but I missed my internet peeps!
hate: that I maybe might have spilled some thai food on my iphone and the ear part maybe might be messed up. UGH. Will deal with it after I’ve slept this weekend..
love: SLEEP. THIS WEEKEND. OMG IT WILL BE AWESOME.
Happy Fridaying to all, and leave me some loves and hates in the comments. I can’t stand to have the butt photos are the top of the page any longer!
